Aliens FPS due out this year
SEGA chimes in with officialdom.
SEGA has revealed that Aliens: Colonial Marines will be on shop shelves in "late 2008".
We heard last week that it would be out next year, but oh no not the case says the publisher, leaking new information like a dying soldier does blood.
Excitingly (for me, at least), Colonial Marines will have an original storyline created by writing duo David Weddle and Bradley Thompson; both are better known for their collaborative efforts on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Battlestar Galactica.
It will be dark, brooding, and claustrophobic, as you creep through abandoned spaceship Sulaco and wait for aliens to jump out on you and stab tails at your face.
The action is all squad-based with some sort of equipment and skill system, and it sounds as if each of your team will have a unique role to play.
Four-player co-op is in, as is the zeitgeist, and SEGA plans to unveil more multiplayer fun further down the line.
Gearbox Software of Brothers In Arms fame is making it, as you know, and we're promised a visual feast to gnaw on.
No assets to prove that, just yet, unless you hunt down those magazine scans that popped up.

Bug Hunt will extend to those foolish marine who allow themselves to be knocked up whilst on duty.

The first is a horror film, the second an action film. I'd put them both on par and think Aliens would make the better game.

It's probably one of the best settings for an FPS to tell the truth.

Nothing beats going through a beaten up ship wreak with nothing but loads of ambient sound and the pulse of the motion tracker. You know they are out there but nothing is showing up and then the tracker kicks in......

Most people think Alien is a better film than Aliens including me. Aliens sort of made the xenomorphs seem less dangerous and scary. Marines in t-shirts fighting an incedibly dangerous alien species with acid for blood was a bad decision. Would have made more sense if they had some kind of suits like Master Chief or something.

I think that was partly the point. despite being the best of the best, they were completely unprepared for what they were going to come up against because they didn't really believe ripley.
then they got their arses handed to them in a bag.
it maked the film more interesting you see.

Kghm. Carry on.

Even so the aliens was killed in huge numbers by a small group of braindead soldiers. In alien, 7 people didnt stand a chance against one singel alien. Ripley got lucky when she managed to get rid of the damn thing. The alien also looked a lot scarier in the first one kinda metallic and mostly walking on 2 feet. The aliens in the sequel looked more like black insects.

If think you have to remember, like convercide said, Alien is a horror movie and Aliens is an action movie. Personally I love both equally but for different reasons. Although I like the way they went back to the suspense of Alien with Alien3, am I the only one who thought Alien3 was actually quite good?
Although I think we can all agree Resurrection was absolutely ruined with the stupid man-alien thing!

I can see the difference of course. Its just what i thing make the first one better. Aliens is still 9/10 to me though.
Alien 3 was alright. But the premise was to unlikely and the CGI for the alien was really bad. Alien ressurection was bad all the way, even AVP is better.
Alien: 10/10
Aliens: 9/10
Alien 3 6/10
A:R : 2/10
AVP: 5/10
AVP2: 4/10

You're not taking into account that Alien franchize has very blurred genres across all 4 movies so maybe that's why you like the first more then the second - because you prefer the tone of the first? Both are brilliant, for what they are. Even the third, with its fucked up "no-screenplay" production, and massivly underrated ("oh look it's not Alien or Aliens, beeeee, suckz"

Yeah the CGI was pretty bad in 3! I still think it great though, poor David Fincher had so much trouble making that movie. The Special Edition greatly improves the movie though. I like your scores but I reckon....
Alien: 10/10
Aliens: 11/10
Alien3: 7/10 (8 for SE)
A:R: 6/10
AVP: 6/10
AVP2: 2/10 TERRIBLE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason i gave AVP2 4/10. Its so incredibly bad that it had some entertaiment value. The impregnation of women and the baby chestburting was just horrible and disgusting though.

I know what you mean, I was glad they put the gore back for this one but man it was so painful to watch I didn't care about the gore!

Aliens: 9/10

A:R : 4/10
AVP: 3/10
