Alan Wake opening played, filmed
Nearing the Finnish?
A collection of new Alan Wake videos have appeared showing the opening section of the spooky thriller.
The footage, shown on GameTrailers TV (thanks vg247), follows Alan out of a cabin and into a village at night, where trees topple, people are brutally murdered and mysterious shadows lurk.
The demonstration explores numerous confrontations with this unknown menace as Wake pursues the manuscript he believes is coming to life right before his eyes.
A second batch of videos is based around a police chase, where Wake has been perceived as a threat and is on the run. The light-based combat mechanic is reversed, as Alan tries to stay wrapped in shadow while the police use flares and flashlights to expose him.
Alan Wake is due out in spring 2010. Our gamepage below has mountains of coverage.

It's pitch black in that direction.

Are you sure. I think I hear a Grue.
> Go North
You stumble blindly through the dark until you are eaten by a Grue. I told you I heard one!

You're not just on the run from the darkness and the creature isn't omnipresent.

I would love this game for the PC rather than the 360 personally as the 360 build I've seen looked excellent in every respect except for the excess of screen tearing which instantly put me off that version. I hope that has been fixed in the final game because I've a feeling the PC version will be ages away.

And quite honestly, dark forests at night, for me, are the scariest settings in horror fiction. Apart from basements *flashback to Condemned*
