Agarest War coming to Xbox 360 too

Due out in the spring with PS3 game.

Aksys Games has announced an Xbox 360 version of SRPG Record of Agarest War is in development.

The game is also in the works for PS3 and had been due to launch this autumn. However, both versions are now due out in spring 2010.

RAW is said to offer "over one hundred hours of gameplay" as you explore "a gorgeous, expansive world of hope and despair". Apparently you get to take a bride - "actually, several brides - and extend their lineage across five generations".

The press release quotes Aksys's Ben Bateman as saying, "In truth, we had Record of Agarest War ready to go up on the PlayStation Network months ago," with an editors' note pointing out: "That's a lie."

Bateman continued, "But when a haggard man emerged from a ball of crackling energy that materialised outside our office with dire warnings from a dark future, we decided to reconsider. As it turns out, a PlayStation Network-exclusive release of Agarest was - or rather, would have been - the catalyst for World War III." We're not making this up.

"The gaming community was torn apart - literally - by this apparent favoritism, and from that schism poured the infinite minions of Satan himself, the Lord of Lies. The man told us, his eyes blank with the 1000-yard stare, of the horrors of this future war. He had been sent back in time, the last hope of a desperate human resistance, to prevent what the people of this desolate future Earth called, simply, 'The Breaking.' As the last spark of life passed from his body, broken and battered by his journey through the time vortex, we swore to honour his final wish.

"This is why Record of Agarest War has been delayed," Bateman added, "So that we may release it on both consoles, and in doing so, save the world."

Record of Agarest War features a collaborative attack system so you can pull off massive combos using multiple party members. Other highlights include an Affection Gauge, which indicates whether female characters fancy you ("If only real relationships were this easy!").

Roll on spring, then.

Spring?? I already have mine for PS3. And with a lovely "art" book too. Full of gentlemen's manga.

And the game's not bad either.

Eurogamer reporting US specific news now?

The game is available on play.com, game.co.uk or amazon for the PS3 since end of last Month. It did go completely beneath my radar though.

I think this is what made their game more popular by far. If it wasnt for articles like this i wouldnt even have heard of it. I sweare i was trying to understand what game we were talking about cause they are talking as if its something i was meant to be hyped about and yet they claim that non PS3 owners are bringing hell for their game huh? I guess everyone has his strategy into making his game known. This surely worked. I'll be honest. I dont know it neither im interested into seeing what it is and coming to XBLA. :p

Original Strategy: Let's bring out Agarest War on the PS3 and then 3 months later, after we have a great community built up in that platform and tons of free publicity, let bring out the 360 version.

New strategy: Nobody talks about/has ever heard of/plays our PS3 version. If we wait much longer, there is no way we are going to sell more than 25 games in the 360.

So let's come up with a great press release saying we are releasing both versions at the same time because of the amazing (fake) big hype and (fake) interest sorrounding our game.

This article reads like a dyslexic babelfish translation, however I don't blame this on Ellie but rather the subject matter.

US only. No soulbreeding on PAL 360s. Then again I doubt anyone cares...

Ghostlight's version on disk is the cut and censored version of the game. The version Aksys is going to release on PSN & Xbox Live is the uncut and uncensored Japanese version of the game. And it got Trophy and Achivements-support as well, since trophies isn't available for the Ghostlight's version.
  • uzivatel #13 2 years ago

@Vargavinter: the 360 version is not XBLA
  • Vargavinter #14 2 years ago

    @uzivatel

Seems your right. Non the less, we get the full game this spring so I'm happy. :)

Some confirmation (ideally from existing owners) about the Ghostlight version would be nice. The game slipped under my radar (where's the EG review??) but looks like my kind of game (turn based strat). That said, I never like "censored" versions as it implies something is missing that the original designers intended.

It looks like there were two Jap releases (the latter being in 2008) - it'd be interesting to know if the Sept 2009 Ghostlight version is the same as the 2007 or 2008 release, or whether other changes were made.

It's very disappointing, there's little to no scud in it, and what little there is is dripfed to you in a tediously generic fantasy plot.
  • evanac #17 2 years ago

I can categorically state - as an employee of Ghostlight - that our version is not censored in any way.

The game is unchanged from the original 'Record of Agarest War' released in Japan and was translated with the full cooperation of Idea Factory and the original developer.

Why are you saying that? The European version of Agarest: Generations of War is complete and uncensored, Ghostlight have confirmed this multiple times. The US version is based on their translation work, sadly Aksys have now delayed the release.

    Please stop spreading lies.
  • Irien #19 2 years ago

Thankyou to evanac and cappy. Is it based on the 2007 or 2008 release of the japanese game?
  • Vargavinter #20 2 years ago

From what i understood on Aksys forum and press-release they claim to release the whole uncencored and uncut game, unlike Ghostlights version thats not "complete". And thus is not my own words, im just posting what i read, so dont kill the messenger. :)
  • Lord_Gremlin #21 2 years ago

It's a 2D game, it should come on all platforms.

It's not that Ghostlight's version is censored or incomplete, it's just that an enhanced version of the game was released for the 360 after the PS3 original. It's like a reverse Trusty Bell or Tales of Vesparia.

Disinformation about the European version of Agarest keeps on cropping up again and again, it's almost as if people working for Aksys are really desperate to stop people from importing it.

    Version differences.

Aside from trophies (if they deliver on that promise) there isn't much to recommend the Aksys version, download only, no collector's edition with art book and say bye bye to a massive chunk of your HD space. I'll opt for the Euro version, I'm not that bothered about trophies and JRPGs seem to be notoriously stingy when it comes to handing them out, Demon's Souls requires an insane amount of effort to even get near 50%, same goes for Disgaea 3, I'd rather just play the game and have fun.
