Aerosmith exclusive to Guitar Hero News

PlayStation 2 Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Tom Bramwell

30 April, 2008

Activision has not only secured Aerosmith for its upcoming Guitar Hero game about the band, but has done a deal to stop Tyler, Perry and co. providing content to rival music game Rock Band.

"I can say that we do have the band exclusively, and their catalogue should be exclusive to us beyond the one or two tracks they had licensed out to Rock Band before we made our deal," Activision's music affairs veepee Tim Riley told Newsweek after the in-house Level Up blog harassed them for details.

The band's "Train Kept A-Rollin'" shipped with the full Rock Band game (not a master recording), but MTV has yet to release any downloadable Aerosmith stuff, and it sounds like it will stay that way.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is currently down for release on PS3, 360, Wii and PS2 in June, and will allow you to play as the band's line-up of guitarists, following the story of the band, and playing through not just their own songs but some of the ones that inspired them.

For more details and some amusing quotes from Steve Tyler, in particular ("Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies"), check out the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith announcement story and the screenshot we've seen.

I'm a pretty hardcore GH player, but I am not buying a game that has 70% of its content with just one band. It'd get horrendously repetitive.

I don't like the idea of a mono-band Guitar Hero. Unless that band is Slayer.

Im sure this is big news in the US, where Aerosmith are, inexplicably, popular.

Luckily we have the Rolling Stone, so dont have to put up with their half-arsed tribute band.

And? Oh! Was that supposed to impress us fans? Well, it doesn't. Does anyone outside of the US actually like Aerosmith? I'm taking such a wide berth from this game that i'll be in some distant galaxy.

Yes, there are plenty of people outside of the US who like Aerosmith (myself included, although they're a long way away from being a regular listen for me). However, a single game, of which 70% is dedicated to them definitely isn't my thing. Plus I've got Rock Band anyway, so GH is pretty redundant in my eyes, especially with the severe lack of DLC for it.

I like Aerosmith fine, but agree with the genral consensus that one band isn't good. It better have some nice game modes, varied non-Aerosmith tracks, and come with a new guitar, otherwise I'll pass.

Exclusive crap like this ruined racing games because certain series' couldn't use certain manufacturers, now we're going to see that type of thing with music games too?
