Activision quiet X360 Quake 3 News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

10 April, 2007

id Software's publishing partner Activision has remained quiet on rumours that Quake III will be heading to 360, refusing to comment on "rumour and speculation".

The idea popped into the Internet hive-mind after the ESRB site produced a listing for the game on Microsoft's console. The entry suggests it's being handled by Pi Studios, which has previously been tasked with developing a map editor for Halo 2 Vista, as well as console versions of Mercenaries 2 and the Call of Duty 2 series.

However, it does leave the rather obvious question as to why anyone would re-release the older game with Quake IV already available on the system. The theory is that this will be an Xbox Live Arcade offering, which would suit the game's size and content.

Quake III Arena is a multiplayer-focused game that launched for PC back in 1999. It was the first time the series had broken away from a story-driven single-player campaign, which it reverted to in 2005 for Quake IV.

We happen to be rather proficient at Quake III map The Longest Yard, and fancy our chances against you lot if this X360 offering turns out to be true. What do you think about that?

Team Arena? That was the expansion. It was just Quake III Arena originally.

Anyway, Q3 is the best Quake ever. It's the best PC FPS ever. It rocked on DC. It will rock my world.

Wow, I would love for this. Even though I own the PC game, QIII is a great shooter. As long as it's on the arcade, though.

Just play it on the PC. It's a sin to attempt to play Q3 with a joypad!

Awesome! Now all they need to do is re-release the game for Windows Vista so 360 and Vista owners can play together.

QuakeWorld > all. The other day I downloaded a video of some old deathmatches and I'd forgotten how *really really fast* you moved in QW. Makes todays shooters seem like you have lead boots on.

You know what I really want?

I wish Quake 4 would get the extra maps that PC owners have had since day one. The Xbox 360 version only has FOUR maps in all and there is only so many times you can play on them before it gets dull.

Given Q3's old graphics, and mouse/keyboard design, surely the Wii would be a better target platform?

Yes please. Would easily pay £10 for this, or £15 for QW + Threewave CTF :)

I like to think of the perfect FPS in the same 'should we change it' bracket as football i.e. there's no need to **** with the beautiful game, and for me QW CTF was the absolute perfection of multi-player FPS. Absolute beauty!

Sob sob - back to slippers and pension thoughts......

Hell yes - I'd love this!! I remember this being about the only game I actively practised so I could beat other people online. Beat it on Nightmare too :)
DC version was brilliant with joypad so this would be great!!

Erm, because it's actually fun, I'd suppose...

Not sure anyone hardcore enough to still play it would prefer to play it on a joypad, however.

Well. Maybe.

I don't personally have a stick up my arse about console FPS games, but certainly, it takes a concerted effort to create an FPS for a console which works well on a PC, and vice versa.

most probably, this is for the xbla. it makes no sense making a complete re-make. and besides, if they are making a complete remake, they will publicize it. we're kind of good in that map too. how about a friendly competition? lol!
