Activision confirms COD4:MW for Wii
Bit late. Arrives November.
Activision has confirmed rumours and announced Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Wii, albeit without the "4".
The rather late conversion will arrive on 10th November, alongside the release of Modern Warfare 2 on other formats.
Treyarch and not original creator Infinity Ward will port the celebrated fourth instalment of the war series to Wii.
What will change in the Wii version of Modern Warfare is unknown, as is whether the port will feature extra DLC maps.
Nevertheless, COD4:MW remains a brilliant shooter without the extra frills, as our glowing review will tell.

Hopefully they won't leave as much out as they did for WaW

I love 1st person shooters but when playing MW it feels like progression is more down to luck rather than skill. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful game to watch but there's just too much going on at one time for me.
I like to think then shoot - MW is just shoot, shoot, shoot, die for me. Tried going back to it a couple of days ago but it just wasn't happening.

Just to be clear, I really enjoyed COD: WAW. But it's so obvious that it owes all its success to Infinty Ward's work on COD4. It's the most blatant "copy/paste/reskin" formula I've ever seen. But it's enjoyable cos its a copy of one of the best games this decade. That and Nazi Zombies....

World at War sold over a million on Wii ..but that was released on Wii at the same time as 360/PS3. A port of an older game probably won't do as well ..unless they give the Wii some worthwhile exclusive modes (I'd buy it if it included Mii Paintball).

FPS and Wii? does that work?!
It does, apparently.
From EG review of The Conduit: "And yes, pad control on other consoles, no matter how well calibrated, does seem a little clumsy after The Conduit."
I've only tried it once so can't really tell. Felt a little awkward, but could be fun.
All they need now is a good game to stick it on. Maybe this one?

that's what the publisher that they're under contract with pays them to do. a studio can't just go and say "no, we don't want to do this, we'd rather make our own game", because the funding comes from the publisher. so you might wanna bitch about activision, but it's not entirely fair to blame treyarch.

These type of titles are best played as big, loud, graphical powerhouses, the "alpha males" as it were of the gaming spectrum. Every attempt at converting one of these across feels watered down, weak and no amount of polish seems to help that.
I understand there is a genuine market here for people like azmol01, but I can't help but think that Activisions target market here are people who don't really understand the difference between this version and the the primary title (MW2) and hope to make a quick buck by marketing it as the same product.
The Wii works between when developer engages brain and try something different, and while I wouldn't call myself a graphics whore it just seems to me that despite promising control schemes, the AAA FPS just works better with all the bells and whistles still attached.

Don't worry- I don't buy them! And I acknowledge your point about the good titles- infact I own almost all the ones on that list (plus Smash Bros and Zack and Wiki).
It's just a shame that the list fits in 2 lines of text as the console nears it's 4th year on the shelves, and it's even more depressing that only a couple of those games are any good online- not that Nintendo have seen fit to provide a coherent, consistent online presence like the other two consoles.
The main reason I keep my Wii is as a retro console, I make great use of the Virtual console, I just wish they'd pull the whole experience in and add an infrastructure like XBL so I felt like I had a reason to keep coming back.

Oh and Karma said to mark everyone up.
So I have.
edit: And I see it is rubbing off on others too - who said the internet was so angry all the time.

STOP RELEASING DUMBED DOWN PORTS, SPINOFFS, AND NICHE GAMES ON THE WII!
It is the effing market leader! Almost all gamers have one! You could safely release your greatest titles exclusively on the Wii! Or at least when you make a multiplatform, give 50% of your resources to the Wii.

Erm not played metroid then?
But that's not what you mean is it? You mean the graphics.. which of course is the ONLY reason to play a game (and not because.. you know.. they might be FUN or something?)

(I actually own a wii, like the console even though it's underused at the moment, and am looking forward to this game, but this is too good an opportunity to get a minus score in the double digits)

?!?!?!?
The wiimote/nunchuck combo is much better for fps than dual sticks imho. As proved by conduit (even if the game itself sucked) and metroid
