Alien Hominid - Eurogamer Signature Edition

Sold out!

1

UPDATE - ZOO Digital sends word this morning, Wednesday 25th, that the Alien Hominid - Eurogamer Signature Edition has now sold out completely. Thanks to all who bought one, and sorry if you were out of luck. All the orders will be shipped today so that you get hold of them in time for release date.

Due out on PS2 and Xbox from Friday 27th May, Alien Hominid is a modern, artistic take on the sideways-scrolling shooters of the past, designed by art-house developer The Behemoth with distinctive hand-drawn and animated visuals from cult artist Dan Paladin.

To celebrate the game's European release, we've done something a bit special. We've teamed up with publisher ZOO Digital to produce a limited run of 100 "Eurogamer Signature Editions" of the game, individually numbered 1 to 100 and signed by Tom Fulp (lead programmer) and Dan Paladin (lead artist), with a limited edition AH T-shirt (XL size only) enclosed in a special Eurogamer slipcase.

2

You cannot get hold of these anywhere else. And since ZOO and us are brilliant, we're also making them available for just £23.99 in both PS2 and Xbox flavours, and if you order early you should get hold of it in time for release day!

We've absolutely no idea how long stocks of these will hold up, so if you're interested we suggest clicking through and buying one up quickly, because when they're gone, they really are gone.

Xbox owners can click here to be transported to ZOO's website to purchase the Eurogamer Signature Edition for Xbox, while PS2 owners should head here. More details on the package and the game itself can be found on those pages.

And remember, if you miss out, you can always pick one up at your local games shop this Friday.

I'm sure it goes without saying, by the way, but if and when AH is reviewed on Eurogamer it will NOT be by one of the core editorial staff, because obviously that would be a bit wrong.

Can I have one on Cube please?
  • Spin_Dr_Wolf #8 7 years ago

Hmmm, do i get the PS2 version and defo backwards compatibility, or the Xbox, and maybe backwards compatibility. Hard choice.
  • thebuzzard #9 7 years ago

Its not being released for GC over here, if you want it for GC you have to import it.
  • ruttyboy #10 7 years ago

Then an EG Cube version would be even more special wouldn't it ;)
  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #11 7 years ago

If you really wanted, you could buy one of these, take the game out of the slipcase and put it on eBay, and buy the Cube one from the US and put it inside. Aaaaaaah!
  • PearOfAnguish #12 7 years ago

    "XL size only"

    Heh. For fat bastard gamers.

It's too big for me now, but I still wear it because I'm fat at heart. (Which is probably medically accurate, actually.)
  • asphaltcowboy #15 7 years ago

Well, I tend to like to find out how good a game is before I buy it...
Anyone know of any good reviews anywhere?
  • prettyboytim #16 7 years ago

I am reliably informed that I am a fat man in a thin man's body.

I was tempted to get one of these, but I've heard it's hard and I don't like hard games.
  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #17 7 years ago

    It's definitely hard.
  • Derblington #18 7 years ago

Bollocks. I want it real bad but I don't have my card on me :(

/prays there will be one left at 5 o'clock
  • Zuiyo #19 7 years ago

It's done. I plan to sell this when I'm 62 so I can retire healthy and wealthy.
  • therev #20 7 years ago

Damn, I didn't realise I wouldn't be able to put in a delivery address after the CC details page.

The post to my flat is really, really bad, so I normally get everything sent to work.

Could I BE any weaker? I've seen about 30 seconds of the game on some show or other and thought "Ooooh looks interesting, might have to get it one day" yet the super shiny ltd. edition thing made my wallet leap from my pocket and batter me into buying it.

What's worse is I shall shortly be using up all the wife's goodwill by buggering off to Turkey for the Champions League final. How do I explain this arriving as I return then?

Excellence. I can say the payment to Zoo or whatever was something to do with Travel insurance. You are devious and I like you.
  • msephton #24 7 years ago

I refuse to buy this seeing as Zoo didn't bring over the technically superior GameCube version. Just thought they might like to know that.
  • Huntcjna #25 7 years ago

well I crumbled like a cheesecake crust I wasn't even intending to buy any more games for a while (I have an unhealthy 12 unopened boxes on my shelf already) but alas I was lulled in by "100 copies only" "slipcase" and "signed" Im so weak.
  • Kiigan #26 7 years ago

I ordered the Xbox one. I suspect I'll be taking Shinji's advice and calling it a "competition prize" also :)
  • captain-future #27 7 years ago

    where's the cube edition?
  • Penfold79 #28 7 years ago

How can it be technically superior if they have added new stuff to the euro versions. Wouldn't they have tweeked the code aswell?
  • Smiggs #29 7 years ago

bah I've crumbled as well, the prospect of a 'limited edition' is just too much to take

  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #32 7 years ago

There is no Cube one in Europe, but ZOO (note to all publishers: put me on games, I give you caps) tells me the Live aware stuff in the Xbox version means it's besterest. It's certainly the one I went for.
  • Donglebomb #33 7 years ago

WHY is there no Cube one in Europe, Bramwell? WHY? Use your secret publisher connections to DEMAND an answer from the buggers. Xbox and PS2 versions are no good to me because I'm too tight to buy another console, and US versions are no good to me because I'm too tight to buy a Freeloader. I'd buy this, though. You know - if there was a Cube version.

  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #34 7 years ago

I will LEVERAGE stuff to find out for you. Tick.

"ZOO Digital is dedicated to bringing great games to gamers all over Europe. We are particularly proud to be able to offer Playstation 2 and Xbox gamers the excellent 'Alien Hominid' from the Behemoth this coming May and are working extremely hard to make sure that you'll rate this as one of your gaming highlights of the year.

While we would love to be able to support GameCube owners with this title, the current and emerging retail support situation in Europe means that it is not economically viable for ZOO to release 'Alien Hominid' on the GC at this time.

Please rest assured that all avenues to a GC release have been explored at length, but our conclusions remain the same. ZOO will be focusing exclusively on delivering an excellent European version of 'Alien Hominid' with some great new features not seen before - but only for PS2 and Xbox."

The T shirts are ace btw, but you'll be fitfully picking at a bit of fluff on your chest for weeks before realising it's actually the very tip of the alien's feelers!

    DOH!

  • Shinji #40 7 years ago

It's a niche title that it's probably pretty hard to make a buck out of already, and adding another version (with associated localisation, testing, certification, manufacturing and distribution costs) for a console where third-party games generally don't sell well would probably break the deal. It's a shame, but personally I'm really happy to see the guys from The Behemoth getting a proper console release for this at all in Europe. I'd rather it came out on PS2 and Xbox than not at all, that's for sure.
  • Shinji #41 7 years ago

(Also, this slipcase has the BEST BOX QUOTE EVER on it, assuming it's the same design as the one I saw previously...)
  • captain-future #42 7 years ago

EG is an evil greedy website that just wants my money.

/bought it. and I'd like EG staff to spend it on beer.

I've ordered the PS2 version because I fear that the Xbox version might not play on next-gen ;)
  • Derblington #43 7 years ago

\o/ I got the gf to order me one.
  • rogermellie #44 7 years ago

    Bugger, another one to play.

You do realise EG that you're costing me a fortune. Normally, I'm just a hard-core PC fan boy, but since I came across this site I’ve changed. I recently bought myself a PS2 and I’ve been buying/playing the games you’ve recommended. I’ve only just finished BG&E, ICO and Project Zero. Next up is Sly Raccoon, Jak & Daxter, and Klonoa 2.

Anyway, if you read this EG I owe you a big thank you.
  • Derblington #45 7 years ago

Are you EG gents going to be doing this more often?
  • Shinji #46 7 years ago

I wouldn't see us doing it very often - right at the moment, it's just a one-off. But, well, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that every now and then, we'll spot a really awesome niche title and try to work out something like this with the publisher.

Don't worry though, we're not about to start trying to sell you FIFA 2006: Eurogamer Edition or Gran Turismo 4: EG-Spec :)
  • Shinji #47 7 years ago

(I should add a HUGE note of thanks to the guys at ZOO for making this happen, by the way...)
  • Derblington #48 7 years ago

Cool. I'm all in support of it, it's a good idea for games of this nature.
  • Donglebomb #49 7 years ago

    > not economically viable for ZOO to release 'Alien
    > Hominid' on the GC at this time.

Now I'm coming over all Michael Douglas (not literally - that'd be vile).

Still, ta for using your MASSIVE CLOUT to get an answer.

    > It's a niche title that it's probably pretty hard to
    > make a buck out of already, and adding another version
    > ...for a console where third-party games generally
    > don't sell well would probably break the deal.

It just seems odd that they were happy to go with the GC elsewhere, but in Europe they took the radical decision to not only bin the already finished (if not localised) Cube release, but replace it with a version hurriedly put together for another format entirely. I can only assume that US sales of the GC version were absolutely piss-takingly bad - but then if the general consensus is that "third-party games generally don't sell well", why take the risk of releasing it for the Cube in the first place? It's all a bit odd.

[Edit - Aargh! What's happening? Tom's spreading the formatting plague!]

3rd party cube games dont seem to sell well in uk.. Mainly because uk gamers are stupid chavs who want to play "adult" games.. or something..
  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #51 7 years ago

"Still, ta for using your MASSIVE CLOUT to
    get an answer."

    I used email.

Also, I imagine it has more to do with the problem of actually getting it onto the shelves rather than worrying too much about what happens once it gets there. Retailers no likey Cube over here.

I've been waiting for a console release ever since I played the original flash-based game a couple of years ago, so ofcourse I ordered it. Have that, wallet!

    erm, objective review?
  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #55 7 years ago

    "erm, objective review?"

    No such thing.

But we will be getting someone off of the EG full-time payroll to review it, as I said at the outset, to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
  • Tommo #56 7 years ago

Should I be worried that my order number was in the 500s?!

And then upping the score by a couple of points a la Gamespy?
  • Baronen #58 7 years ago

Should I be worried that my order number was in the 500s?!

I hope not. Mine was too. :/ Oh well, chances are they are ... not related only to Alien Hominid. Yeah.
  • el_pollo_diablo #59 7 years ago

"Should I be worried that my order number was in the

Just what I was worrying about too. I assume though that by letting me order it they have a few left.

    Otherwise..... heads........ will....... roll.....
  • redzero #60 7 years ago

Ordered a ps2 one, it said my order number was in the 500's though? Anyone else have this sort of number that ordered earlier? Hope they dont dispatch a plain version if they run out ;/

  • el_pollo_diablo #64 7 years ago

Thank you for shopping at Zoo. Your order number is 569.

    *GAGS*
  • Baronen #65 7 years ago

Oh hell, I really think they'd take it down if it was sold out. If it really is sold out however, damn you Eurogamer! I will never buy a game through your website ever again!
  • WoodenSpoon #66 7 years ago

Ordered, but how will we know if we've gotten one?

Are there only 100 copies, and after that none are signed, or after 100 copies are sold is it listed as sold out?
  • Smiggs #67 7 years ago

the article was posted at 11:20

I recieved a confirmation email at 14:52 with order number 537, if they have only got up to number 569 in 6 hours it would have to be one hell of a rush between 11:20 and 14:52.

    I think we are safe!
  • toy_brain #68 7 years ago

    Order number 538 here.

They do sell stuff other than Alien Hominid y'know, so I doubt the order number represents the number of orders for that specific item at all.
  • WoodenSpoon #69 7 years ago

  • Baronen #70 7 years ago

Puh, thanks for that, Smiggs. I was thinking something along the same lines, but I didn't order before five o'clock, so... Anyway, I sent a "Support Question" to Zoo regarding the matter, so they should get back to me in a day or two.

Toy_Brain: But 550 sounds like a low number for the whole website, then again, they're not that big of a company *scrolls through their list of games* BUT DON'T WORRY ZOO, WE STILL LOVE YOU!

Oh, and speaking of which: I noticed Zoo carries the Alien Hominid t-shirt in both L and XL, if anyone feels like ordering a second one in a smaller size.
  • el_pollo_diablo #71 7 years ago

I love a good panic, me.

Anyway, this game better be good.

    *narrows eyes*
  • Baronen #72 7 years ago

Hehehe. I suggest playing the original flash game at the official website, www.vote-alien.com, to make the waiting more bearable. Just imagine how much it will rock with co-op and more levels!

    Edit: Completed. COME OOOON, MAILMAN!

??? I was shocked to see such a low order number xxx. ???

Assuming the increment their order numbers by 1 for each individual order they only server about 500 orders... is that shoppe this new?

Don't worry for your orders: the number does not relate (IMHO) to your EG orders.

just look at those who buy Zoo Keeper on DS for 19.99 LOL.

LOL all you like, but I've had more play time out of Zoo Keeper than pretty much any other videogame in the last year, and it's kept me entertained through a hell of a lot of train journeys, flights and hangovers...

And that's even after I bought PopCap's Bejeweled ages ago for about $10 and played it for months. :)
  • WoodenSpoon #81 7 years ago

    I'm quite excited now.
  • Baronen #82 7 years ago

Yeah, me too. I've been watching movie clips and screenshots the last two days. I envy you british fellas who get the game tomorrow. As for me, I'm going to have to wait about an extra week and pay 25% more - plus fees - but it's still worth it, I reckon. Damn you, customs.
  • Embra #83 7 years ago

Pack just arrived - I am such a sucker for these things (Halo 2, Jade Empire, etc, etc). Cheers to EG and Zoo for getting this sorted. Please continue to fleece us for everything we have in the future - we love it really.
  • therev #84 7 years ago

Did anyone get a shipping email or anything? And did you have to sign for it?

I sent an email to them asking if they could deliver to my work address, because my home post is dodgy, but didn't hear anything back, so I guess it's been sent to my home address.

Which gives me about a 47% chance of ever seeing it. Oh well.
  • Harpe #85 7 years ago

    Anyone else get theirs?
  • Penfold79 #86 7 years ago

I got mine too :o) it was a bit tight at first but it soon got loose enough after a couple of goes. Better than it falling off innit?
  • therev #87 7 years ago

Phew! I had a 'come to the Post Office for parcel' card when I got home, so everything's okay.

I'm sure y'all were terribly worried about it.
  • toy_brain #88 7 years ago

    Got mine today - PS2 - No.41
The slipcase thingy was very tight -had to slide a piece of card down each side in order to loosen it up a bit so I could slide it off without damaging it.

Still, well done on the cool offer Eurogamer.
Seeings as the game is £25 at retail, and this limited edition thingy was the same price only delivered, signed and with a free t-shirt, I'd say thats pretty cool value.
  • redzero #89 7 years ago

    #25 on PS2 here :)

Yep, my cardboard sleeve was also way too tight on the sleeve, I just held it loosely around the corners and pushed the end of the game box against a handle on a kitchen drawer and it came off in tact, hope that helps
  • therev #90 7 years ago

Well, if the number on the bottom right hand corner is the right number and not a stock code then I've got Xbox number 015.
