6x XP week for Gears of War 2

Who needs E3?

Epic Games is running a 6x XP week for Gears of War 2 during E3.

That's according to producer Rod Fergusson, who tweeted the news last night.

"It's official, we're going with 6x XP for the week of E3. So that's 3 times the current double XP," he explained using advanced maths.

"It will run from June 14th @ 9AM EDT till June 21st @ 9 AM EDT." 9am EDT is 2pm BST as far as we can remember.

Epic is showing off Gears of War 3 at E3 next week, so do remember to take a few minutes out from kerb-stomping your friends to check in on that.

Hooray! A friend recently calculated that getting to level 50, based on a certain (and not unreasonable) number of games per week would take years.

"It's official: we TOTALLY fucked up the XP system in a way totally unsurprising to those who've followed our haphazard approach to Title Updates"

    @MrMarc

    Level 29 to 100 requires 6,705,390 experience!

This is roughly the same as going from level 1 to 100
This much experience could be gained by:

Killing 22,352 people in Warzone, or...
Killing 22,808 people in Execution, or...
Killing 18,942 people in Wingman, or...
Scoring 4,789,565 points in Guardian, or...
Scoring 14,576,935 points in Annex, or...
    Scoring 8,822,882 points in Submission.

    Horde:
Completing 33,527 waves on Casual, or...
Completing 22,352 waves on Normal, or...
Completing 16,764 waves on Hardcore, or...
    Completing 13,411 waves on Insane.

    Have fun!

The whole levelling up system is pointless in Gears 2 anyway. There's no reward for reaching a certain level, and even though I'm at Level 40, I still get paired with level 100s so its not like the game is any fairer on people who play it less. Levelling up unlocks nothing but achievements. I play it very casually with friends from time to time (once every few months) but apart from that I cannot get the energy to put the disc in the tray. I really do hope Epic see sense and bring back the Gears 1 shotgun and sort out that utterly ridiculous Lancer and its chainsaw. Its shocking that it hasnt been sorted in the number of patches...sorry I mean TITLE UPDATES they've released

I keep hearing complaints about "bring back Gears 1 shotgun" and yet I find the Gnasher in Gears 2 to be a lot more consistent in terms of predicting how much damage you'll do and whether you connect with it. Oh, and the majority of level 100 players have glitched just to get the achievement, so you're pretty much in a crapshoot as to how good they actually are...

the shotgun has changed greatly since TU6, overall probably an improvement over how it was on all but the best connections. The heavily-belated introduction of a modicum of host-checking has reduced the number of "fuck me" match-ups and improved the whole experience. Worth a go if you'd given up in disgust over the last year or so. It's almost like Epic finally accepted that people liked GOW1 for the shotgun and stopped forcing the "signature" Lancer onto the game by constantly buffing the fucking thing.

That said, it's still the internet, so random weird bullshit remains a fact of life; a notion lost on the shrieking idiots going ballistic at the end of matches.

I've still had a few, but the connection consistency has been a bit better (in fact I've found I've been given host more often since TU6 oddly enough), matchmaking a little fairer and shotgun more consistent. It's a start. Now let's have dedicated servers to stop the other issues of host bridging and lag switching :p

Isnt that a game spoiler surely?

Surely it means people who play during this week will have an unfair advantage over ones on holiday and stuff?
