60GB Xbox 360 in Europe on Friday

20GB bundle getting the axe.

Microsoft is introducing the 60GB Xbox 360 Premium hardware bundle in European this Friday.

The unit will cost GBP 199.99 / EUR 269.99, which is the same as 20GB bundle it's replacing.

Microsoft gave no indication whether the 20GB Premium bundles will be reduced in price while stocks last - as they will in the US, where they will go down to USD 299 (GBP 151).

The standalone 60GB hard drive is expected to follow, although Microsoft has yet to concrete any plans.

The 60GB Xbox 360 comes with an HDMI port, wireless pad, wired headset and one-month subscription to Xbox Live.

"No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver and we know consumers need increasingly more and more space to store the amazing digital entertainment content we provide," said Neil Thompson, European Xbox boss, without bias.

Both the Xbox 360 Arcade (GBP 159.99) and the Xbox 360 Elite (GBP 259.99) will be unaffected by the new model.

play.com got rid of all their 20GB pros about a week ago. They slashed the price to £170 and they were quickly gone. all they have left now are the bundles.

When are they shipping the new chipset versions?
  • DB2k #3 4 years ago

is this the same as the elite setup with the falcon chipsets but sometimes still sounding like a helicopter taking off?

I have the Wii and 360 and love them both, but wouldn't mind a PS3.

I'm hoping this news will spur Sony into offering something similar here. Give it a week or two.

"When are they shipping the new chipset versions?"

Most articles referring to the "Jasper" hardware revision predicted deployment around August, so it's possible that these new 60GB 360s have the 65nm GPU. We'll have to wait until someone kindly opens one up for us...

    @the_sas_man

Sony is offering the same thing 80GB PS3 comin to europe end of August @ the same price as 40GB PS3s
    HERE!

    @Octoroc
US people have already opened these new ones up and they are the same except some things have been moved around which apprently do help in cooling. It's at Koraku - I will look up the link.

I'm hoping the price of the standalone 60GB hard drive is less of a ripoff. Although I'm assuming it won't be so cheap as everyone would just buy an Arcade model and the hard drive separate. Oh well. :(

Although, at the current price yea its about a quid per gig, so maybe it could be around the 60 quid mark which might not be soo bad. (Bad value yea, but its better than paying 120 quid if you aren't going to use it all anyway).

johnnybrn: If you got the RROD, Microsoft tells you to send it in without the HDD, so no 60GB drive that way.

  • peterfll #12 4 years ago

christ i hate fanboys, and jesus christ i hate sony fanboys! once they get some games apart from MGS4 then they can contribute to a conversation, coz as far as i'm concerned my PS3 is obsolete already. fucking waste of money
  • Widge #18 4 years ago

I'm glad you shared that with us
  • dr_faulk #19 4 years ago

They sure as shite better drastically reduce the price of a replacement 60gig drive. I'm beginning to side with Sony on this 'MS dividing users' thought, especially now that games can be installed on the HD.

who cares??? X360 is falling and failing... Pc and Ps3 take the cake any day of the week, both technologically superior, with stronger exclusives and better reliability, hell, x360 don't even have such thing as "exclusives", every one of them is ported with better graphics and added content for the Pc (Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshok etc)... so what's the point?.

Bring the new 360, cause these one have already been owned.

The 60GB is brilliantly priced but the Arcade and 'Elite' models are OVER priced now by a good £20-30!

I'm still not getting one though.
  • bitesize #24 4 years ago

yay, apologie is back! and making as much sense as ever!
  • electrolite #25 4 years ago

Hmmm, getting more plausible a purchase, interesting to see how reliable it is, and if Sony make a move. One day, one of these machines is going to make me an irresistible offer
  • Bangaioh #26 4 years ago

I have 2 360s that have both had Rods (damn MS)... do you think these will be new hardwares or just old crap with 60gb?
  • Rash' #27 4 years ago

Well then it's decide no more 360 purchase until MS get their bloody hardware together. How longs it been now? Bloody bastards! I really want Braid!
  • Bangaioh #28 4 years ago

Hey Evil, yeah one of my 360s is a Falcon but still managed to ROD today... just got back from a two week vacation, turned it on for a quick download (Geom Wars II) and it bloody RODed... Fortunately enought I have my older model that arrived back about a month ago. I'm really fed up of sending them back to MS. Pity because I love 360 but what a drag... I think I'm gonna get em repaired and get a PS3, I've had 3 360s, first one died after a year, got it repaired and gave to a mate because I wanted a Falcon.
  • Bangaioh #29 4 years ago

Well, I'd say there is more than anecdotal evidence, you're just lucky...

    HERE!"

You'd be better ordering from Gamestation.
The pre-order is £20, with the promise of no more than £299.99 of the lowest bundle.
(Ie. At very least you'll get a couple of old games or something as Gamestation don't do single console sales, but do include games for free!)
  • TheMoonRat #31 4 years ago

Popped into gamestation and game today; both said they weren't going to be dropping the price of the 20gb model to get rid of stock. Although the game guy did reveal he'd been visited by a Microsoft guy earlier, so they were probably told to keep to that line. When I pressed on what would happen with this 20gb models (since no-one would buy a 20gb version for same price of a 60gb version) he just seemed to think the consoles would "go elsewhere". Gamestation guy said there would just be more games bundled into the 20gb version from friday to keep it the same price til stocks last.
  • Amon_Amarth #32 4 years ago

wow u guys nedd new 360 all the time bacause of hdd, i got around 500gb on my ps3 haha
  • actionfitz #33 4 years ago

    sigh.
fanbois make baby jesus cry. it's true.
Quoting from this months PC gamer 'Devils advocate' article about game scores and gaming zealots:

"Intelligent criticism is swiftly sucked under and drowned by the sea of white noise that is the internet... All discussion of merits and flaws devolves into a pointless, vitality-draining, Trisha-esque screaming match over a number... scores simply become battlefield flags for believers to stand under. These believers then fight for no more reason than the flags are there. And it's mind-numbing. You might think that having such dedicated people arguing the case for games would be good, but fanatiscism is never good. And handing scores out is like handing out car bombs to religious zealots. they will use them in thier brainless, self-absorbed stampede to impose thier unsupportable world view on everyone, to ruin the very thing they supposedly love."

that pretty much nails my feelings on the subject.
Why twats like our local EG console fanbois need to launch into vitriolic tirades when someone dares to waver in their enthusiam for a platform or product they themselves love, is beyond me.
guess it just comes down to your bog-standard internet' ignorant-dick-with-an-audience' syndrome.

    @ actionfitz

I think they post in here to stop themselves from having to write to the comments page on the Sky website.

That's possibly the only place in the world with more stupid comments than in the fanboi comment threads.

Not saying that I don't enjoy stupid comments, but don't enjoy personal insults when someone hasn't chosen your particular box of electronics.
