50 Cent sequel not dead yet News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

22 September, 2008

Sources close to Swordfish Studios have gunned down rumours that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand has been cancelled.

The game is close to completion, according to GamesIndustry.biz, and the team is working long hours to squash bugs in time for a Christmas launch.

US blog Kotaku had originally claimed the game had been put to rest and that the UK team developing was to be sold off.

Blood on the Sand - for Xbox 360 and PS3 - aims to improve vastly on 50 Cent: Bulletproof by using a six-pillar foundation for success: gunplay, interactive counter-kills, a G-Unit buddy system, online play, music and the levels featuring driving and flying.

Head over to our 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand preview to find out more.

Haha, those trailers are so pathetic. These kind of characters are just so sad and they don't even know it.

It's a rare achievement, when the announcement that a game isn't cancelled causes palpable disappointment across the gaming community.

I fear this game is a couple of years to late

People have moved on from Fiddy especially after the 50/Kanye debacle last year that he lost! Ha ha

I'll take that bet.

I'm not sorry the game is still on. I'll be upset if any clown buys it though.*

*Unless of course it turns out to be tongue in cheek madcap fun and games**

**It's going to be so far up it's own arse it can see light isn't it.

Let's face it, the game actually looks pretty good on a technical level. The first 50 Cent game also sold stupidly well, despite being critically panned.

Oh well, games for all tastes.

"Oh well, games for all tastes."

Or lack thereof.

EggyDeth is right, this is one of the few occasions where I've been disappointed that a game hasn't been cancelled.

sickpuppy: of course the game is tongue in cheek! you really think it's a po-faced take on the middle east crisis that aims to present 50 cent's rough justice as a viable solution? no, it's just a bizarre star vehicle trading on an OTT public image, like elvis movies in the 60s. if the game is basically solid, which it seems to be, i have a whole lot more interest in it than any other gears-a-like with space marines.

of course, most people on this site are probably thinking 'waa waa this game looks shit, why can't the mars volta star in an action game instead', and it kindof sucks to be those people.

I feel for the developers, I really do. Imagine being handed a license like this? You must just think "Well, fuck it. What's the point? There isn't enough cool on the earth to overcome the suckyness of this license".

Regardless of the game, surely it can only be good news that the developers aren't going to be chucked out onto the dole?

samaran: I didn't mean the middle-east part of it. I'm hoping it sends 50 cent as the panto character he really is.

Speaking of dropped games, EG, any news on The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena? I was really looking forward to that.

After reading the comments thus far and coming across some which seem to indicate that there are insane people out there that are actually LOOKING FORWARD to this game! I would like to distance myself from this lot by pointing out that my first comment was pure sarcasm of the highest level.

This, along with Saints Row 2, looks like my idea of inane boredom coupled with teeth-grinding style.

and i in turn would like to point out, redneon, that my reasoning for looking forward to this game is both salient and eloquently-argued, whereas the case against 50 cent: blood in the sand appears to be something along the lines of "shit! black music in my GAME store!". i don't particularly like fiddy (a few tunes off the first record and 'how to rob' aside ('how to rob' being one of the best diss tracks of all time, incidentally)) but he is perfect for a game like this - i sure do like some of that 'pop culture' stuff, and ridiculous mashups such as this are not to be taken lightly. if there's been a more potentially brilliant premise for a game announced this year then i'd like to hear it.

Ahh don't lump Saints Row 2 in with this type of shit! As grating as the "bling bling chav favourite" style of Saints Row is (and the limited edition gun box doesn't help) the first game was a great example of how to make a fun engaging sandbox game that GTA4 seemed to forget under the deep storyline and pointless friends activities. Plus it scored extra points for me by having Ils, Koma & Bones, Evil 9 and Freq Nasty in the soundtrack.

Definitely looking forward to Saints Row 2, but this game can do one.

No not really. I'm just sitting here thinking what a sad personality this '50 cent' character must be. But then the intellectual level of his supporters is marked by the fact that their mummies never taught them to pull up their trousers properly.

why does everything have to be taken at face value? why can't we accept certain things for the glorious disasters they promise to be? sure, some (maybe most) of the audience for a 50 cent game will be poorly-dressed page three models from the daily mail, but the game isn't being made by people like that and as such should hold appeal on another level if the designers are people of integrity. are you accusing them of anything else? i have never met any of the guys and dolls responsible for this, but i'm pretty sure they expect this game to reach beyond the people you're thinking of with aforementioned silly trousers. i mean, you don't even want to know how hot i'm dressed right now, for example (my jeans are at the appropriate height but complement my slender frame with impeccable verve) and i'd like to think i've demonstrated intellectual capability and valid reasoning for being interested in this thing, so it must have another audience beyond straight-laced 50 cent fans. if nothing else, it's something different for a change - isn't that what people always claim to want? wouldn't you rather play as an emcee than a space marine just once, all other things being equal?

though i'm talking to someone who thinks oblivion is worthy of a 10/10, so i guess i give up. there's just no learning some people :(
