3D Dot Game Heroes venturing West News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

17 November, 2009

From Software's quirky, retro-styled action-adventure 3D Dot Game Heroes is heading West under Atlus' banner.

The US can expect the PS3 game on 11th May 2010, and Europeans may freely import due to the region-free nature of the console.

3D Dot Heroes looks like a LEGO-built remake of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and is designed to nod to the great action-adventures of old. Plus, there's a character customisation tool that enables heroes to be built from scratch and traded with friends.

3D Dot Game Heroes arrived in Japan earlier this month and we'll be reviewing the game on import soon.

The game looks great, however when I watch the videos it reminds me more of the very first Zelda title (which I couldn't get on with very well when playing the GBA remake) more so than my personal series favourite, Zelda III. If this plays as good as it looks though and reviews well, then unique exclusives like this will certainly make me purchase a PS3 sooner rather than later.

Brilliant news, especially since Atlus are publishing, no worries about the standard of localisation.

I won't say no to a budget price.

Apparently they developed 3D Dot Game Heroes in less than a year, little over six months supposedly.

As a Demon's Souls fan I'll definitely be snapping this one up (even if it's an import from the USA).

Anyone know whether this has had an Asian English language release, or is there one imminently planned?

After the poor sales in Jp it's no wonder. Game looks great but I suspect it won't live up to DS.

Thinking of any sort of DS influence is probably expecting too much. From Software produce a lot of stuff and can blow a bit hot and cold.

I'm a little bit hmm hmm about the world map perspective, the HUGE sword that you seem to have in sections and the fear that it might be a bit sterile and lifeless. I would be a harsh critic on this because trying to top A Link To The Past would be a mammoth task.

Any JP reviews of this?
