3D Animal Crossing on the way?

It'll be unveiled at E3, says report.

Rumours are whizzing round the internet that a 3DS version of Animal Crossing will be on show at E3 next week.

Destructoid quotes "sources" as saying Nintendo has been showing a demo of the game to developers and publishers.

Apparently it's launch title for the platform holder's new handheld, and a big reveal is planned for next week - presumably during Nintendo's E3 conference on Tuesday.

Nintendo has declined to comment on the report, so there's no way of knowing whether it's the real deal or whether naughty old Internet Rumours has been up to his old tricks again.

Still, just a few days till we find out. E3 will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from 15th - 17th June, and Eurogamer is packing its toothbrush and panicking about whether it has met US immigration's stringent paperwork requirements as we type.

According to our sources, Nintendo has been quietly wooing developers and publishers with a handheld 3D demo of its popular franchise, Animal Crossing. Word has it that the game will be revealed next week as a launch title for Nintendo's handheld. When contacted with a request for comment, Nintendo's response was as expected: "Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation."

As a launch title for the 3D, Animal Crossing seems like a fair bet. The DS title, Animal Crossing: Wild World, was a massive success; as of March 2008, Nintendo said the title had sold 9.53 million copies worldwide. The publisher even bundled the game with the Nintendo DS in 2006.

Nintendo's E3 press conference takes place on Tuesday, June 15 at 9am Pacific. We'll be there, so keep your eyes peeled for next week's live coverage of the event.

Just so long as its got something actually new in it, the GC, DS and Wii versions are all practically identical. This isnt Pokemon you swines !

Imagine an in-game global fishing tournament, thats the kind of thing they need to add

If this integrates online better and packs some new features then I'm totally sold on the 3DS.

I can almost guarantee that this will be the N64 game with a marginal upgrade for 3D. Nintendo have been pumping out pretty much the same game for almost a decade. I do like it though, I just wish they would do something a little more innovative for once.
  • alcides #6 2 years ago

It actually goes back to the N64, and yes, it's still the same game. Only presentation changes.
There is no way I am ever giving them money for that.

Bought animal crossing for the DS after all the rave reviews, played it, thought wtf this is not a game, and never picked it up again. Fishing, shaking fruit off trees, catching insects - seriously, that's all there is ???
  • twoism #8 2 years ago

I hope they'll actually add some worthwhile things to it this time, like new mini games, more activities and events, etc. In other words, this better not just be Animal Crossing: Wild World: 3D, which sadly is probably exactly what we'll be getting.

The thing that irritates me the most about the game is that once you do eventually get bored of it, you never want to return because you know that your town will have imploded in your absence. Not the best game design from Nintendo to be honest.

I love animal crossing, but of all the games to push new technology......... Its not like its got the typical 'new gadget' audience, is it?
  • smelly #11 2 years ago

I love how these "every animal crossing game" is the same comments are from the same people who rant and rave about the latest carbon copy fps game with a space marine in it.
  • smelly #12 2 years ago

oh and if you dont think there will be a new mario or zelda shown for the 3ds too - you're naieve.
  • alcides #13 2 years ago

all the comments are saying the same thing : it's the same game since forever, I hope it's different.

    All comments are +4/+5
    Mine is -2

    Because it's redundant?
    Maybe there is no why.
    Figures.

I couldn't recommend these games to anyone, but i've found these games quietly addictive. I didn't miss a single day in that game for over 5 months and I didn't really achieve anything amazing.
