343: There is no Gearbox Halo project News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

31 July, 2009

Microsoft has denied once and for all (probably) that Gearbox Software is working on a new Halo game following studio boss' Randy Pitchford's evasive behaviour in a Eurogamer interview last week.

Following a straightforward denial on the Halo Waypoint Twitter, a representative told GameSpot: "For the record, we can confirm that Gearbox is not working on a Halo project."

And, indeed, why should they be? Between the two Bungie games - Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach - and the new Halo Waypoint Xbox Live destination, not to mention the upcoming anime series, fans of the series should be amply served if nothing else.

Still, it does beg the question: why was Pitchford so evasive in the first place?

Probably because they are in negociations, not actual production.

Bungie probably wants to focus on other stuff, so they need a new studio to do a Halo launch title for the next Xbox. I'd imagine they're talking to a bunch of FPS developers.

Isn't this incredibly obvious? Just like I thought at the time, one word - publicity.

I'd like to think someone is working on Halol 3 PC. But I guess it's wishful thinking.

One: publicty. Every time you heard even the smallest rumor about it you mentioon his name, his companies name and the last title they made with a link to the review. Man's trying to run a business, you're trying to run a website and we all just like gossiping round the ater cooler. No harm, no foul...

Two: Because he's a c**t with a sense of humour and likes teasing people over a project that doesn't even exist:

"GEARBOX BIGWIG: SAYS HE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST!!!"

i'd click on it just for comedy value ;)
