3.19m Wiis sold during 2006

Out of 4 million manufactured.

Nintendo sold 3.19 million Wii consoles by the end of 2006, it said today, announcing record profits.

That's a bit shy of the 4 million it said it would shift, so the company clarified: it has produced 4 million, and the remainder are still working their way to consumers.

The company still aims to manufacture 6 million by the end of the fiscal year (i.e. the end of March).

Nintendo's financials also highlighted some other interesting, Wii-related stats. Virtual Console is clearly working out alright, with 1.5 million games sold and downloaded as of 24th January, thanks to the fact that 1.4 million Wiis have been hooked up to the Internet worldwide.

The platform holder also said that three Wii titles had reached or surpassed 1 million units sold.

Obviously things are going "quite well" with the DS, too. Having recently announced 10 million units sold in Europe, today's announcements add that 13 DS titles hit the 1 million mark during the first nine months of the fiscal year, while "more than" 3.5 million unique users have played on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
