In development at 2K Boston, says report.

According to multiple internets, 2K is set to reveal a new instalment in the Spec Ops series during the Spike Video Game Awards in December.

What's more, IGN reports that the game is in development at Ken Levine's outfit, 2K Boston.

Is it the game the man himself has described as "substantially more ambitious than BioShock"?

A brief teaser trailer suggests it's set in Dubai, what with the pictures of a sandstorm sweeping through Dubai and the voiceover, which says: "Attempted evacuation of Dubai resulted in complete failure. The convoy stalled, trapped in the storm, 18 klicks out of Dubai. Death toll... too many."

A longer version of the trailer was apparently posted on Adland.tv in August, but has been removed this weekend after everyone found it and started embedding it.

The original Spec Ops games appeared on PC, PlayStation and Dreamcast between 1998 and 2002. Having begun strongly (says Wikipedia - we were all asleep at the time), the series tailed off into budget shootery.

Presumably we'll find out a bit more about what 2K's revamp has to offer at the VGAs on 12th December.

Hmm...vaguely remember the first few games in the series being pretty good. Nice mix of shooty-bang-bang and strategy.

OMG I played Spec Ops Ranger Elite and Covert Assault, growing up on PSX. Ridiculously hard, with crap movement, eye-gouging graphics (was that a bush or a bazooka weilding bad-guy?), unrealisitc time limits, lame navigation, and bullets took an unfairly vicious chunck of you life away.

It so bad, but for some reason me and my borther loved the against-all-odds co-op. It wasn't meant to be hard, it was just so badly made that it was thrilling to get through it.

Spec Ops was a good game on PC, It was one of the first realistic 3rd person shooters, pre dating Raindow Six.

Never saw the crap PS1 port. But it was a PC game, so it probably wasn't meant to be on consol.

Ah so if this is what he has been working on, then its not Xcom unless this is just one game from the studio.... me wants new Xcom..

Is it just me who has no memory of this entire franchise whatsoever?

Excellent work whoever decided to set the game in Dubai, anyway. If there's one place I'd love to generally detonate, that's it.
