2K quiet on BioShock DLC

Unconfirmed for now.

Genetically enhanced publisher 2K Games has declined to confirm or deny the rumours surrounding downloadable content for BioShock.

Speculation began after eagle-eyed boffins claimed to have found details of new Gene Tonics and plasmids hidden in the game's innards.

The code documentation they used as evidence has been posted on the official 2K forums, and shows what appears to be foundations for a PlasmidPack1 downloadable addition.

"Having concluded clinical trials on four new Genetic Improvements, Ryan Industries is proud to announce the general release of their newest products," reads the evidence.

These are a Sonic Boom plasmid that hurls your enemies back with a blast of force, as well as Gene Tonics Eve Saver, Vending Expert and Machine Bully.

Delving deeper into the alien-like literature and you'll find all sorts of not yet implemented (our tech chap says "commented out") powers. There's Electric Bold Zero, Life Drain, Telekinesis Two and Revival.

Go even deeper still, and you'll find a whole unused Ecology plasmid type, based around usage in pressurised areas. So if you use the High-Pressure Armour Plasmid, then you'll take less damage when the local pressure is a bit high can't breathe, gulp.

Plasmids and Gene Tonics, for those who don't know, are genetic alterations that you can use to augment your abilities. Plasmids are active, so you can use them to fire at people, while Gene Tonics are passive and permanently upgrade your abilities depending on which ones you have equipped.

BioShock was released at the end of August and is many people's pick to be the game of the year. Pop over to our review to see why we awarded it top marks.

    Are they also quiet on yesterday's 360 update, which seems to have broken the game completely? Keeps freezing for me now.

    i guess these will be be standalone addtions for use in the same game.
    Would be nice to have expansion storylines to play..however that would work :0

    Wasn't there a plasmid that lets you teleport yourself, in one of the demo videos ? Or maybe it's in the main game and i just haven't found it yet.

    Agreed I didn't have any probs until the update. Now in some areas its like wading through mud.

    Actually SomaticSense, Fontaine and Suchong were two completely different people, as noted by the audio tape of Suchong being killed by a big daddy when he smacked a little sister.

    Ask them what that damn patch was for, it installed when I booted up Bioshock last night on my 360. People are still reporting problems with stuttering so it didn't fix that.

    EG, Any chance you can allow HTML editing of text colour in threads as then spoilers could be coloured white to avoid them being seen accidentally?

    Was it me or didn't the bathosphere destinations map have one or two unfilled destinations at the end of the game? Without the multiplayer option the appeal of the new plasmids would be rather limited. I was left confused as to why there weren't more splicers in the game using plasmids against me.

    Could do with an insane difficulty level finding Hard too easy now.

    If your having freezing problems on 360 Bioshock,copy your game save to to a memory unit (if you have one!) and remove the hard drive it seems to be the only way to stop it!

    The Rabbit Ears tape was genius.

    edit: the thread in the 360 forum explains how to get rid of the game freezing. you don't need to play from a memory card. Just press a couple of buttons when the game is loading to clear the cache.

    So there was only one? Certainly we only get to see a fraction of Rapture during the game itself. If you add new Plasmids it'd make sense to have some more ADAM (unless you want to advocate harvesting - which they plainly don't). So you might well need to open up a new area. Purely wishful thinking tho.

    I hope this isn't going to be some sort of 250kb download for a stupid price like 800+ Microsoft Points to unlock stuff that's already hidden away on the disc. That would somewhat sour what has so far been a fantastic game. If it's on the disc then sweeten everything up by releasing the content for free. It would be a good reason for many people who've played the game more than once or twice to play it again with all new powers.

    I had the freezing issue the other day. Tried the old Xbox trick of loading 3 different games and then loading Bioshock. Fixed after that, must be to do with clearing the cache.

    DLC? Damn, I'd love the chance just to be able to play what's on the disc... I wish the nice people at MS and UPS would actually get a move on given my (apparently now fixed) 360 has been sat there waiting to be sent back since the beginning of the week now. C'mon people, I've got games waiting to be played! Like a four to five week turn around wasn't already frustrating enough.

    Wow. I put spoilers in bold, but I forgot to space them out enough. I'll just delete the sodding post then. Sorry guys, but no need to label me a cunt and all that FFS. Those who frequent the forum should know that I'm not the type of prick who does this purposefully. Christ sake.

    And besides, I notice no one mentioning DUFFKING's complete neglect of even even a small spoiler warning. But then I'm apparently a prick, cunt, idiot, an ADD sufferer, and someone who apparently did it on purpose just to be a selfish prick out to fuck everyone over, so I guess I'm the only one at fault then.

    And I got that you know what from one of the non-audio log transmissions later on in the game. He pretty much says it outright, only without saying the actual name. Maybe I was wrong, but it was the message I got.

    I fixed my stuttering by removing the HD and playing off a memory card...I ended up playing the whole game like that...I am pleased other people are haviong the problem, it means that my xbox isnt bust

    I just got bioshock and medal of honour airborne and now the call of duty 4 beta key.Wow plenty of beer and gin soaked gaming goodness for me to enjoy.

    ok - firstly machine buster, vending expert and eve saver all sound like tonics to me and to be honest they all sound ver unnecessary

    why would you need to save eve - there is plenty of it around anyway, and the machine and vending buster would also be pretty pointless cuz there is tonnes of spare money around to buy automatic hack tools

    sonic boom sounds... ok - i did enjoy cyclone trap but sounds very similar

    i agree with willy359 - bullet time plasmid not only fits in with the story but would also be awesome!

    Yes it annoying when people post spoilers, but there is a difference between malice and simply oversight. The responses to SomaticSense are well over the top.

    Its only a cocking game you mentalists, yet you act like you would punch him in the street.

    If someone told you the ending to a film by accident, would you say "oh man, I hadn't seen it", but then reasonably accept a "oh sorry dude, I didn't think" apology... or would you rave like an asylum inmate as if he had murdered your first born and shit in your fridge on the way out?

    Cheers Kangaroo, I thought I was the only one who thought they went well over the top. I even got an almost worse reaction than that prick who posted spoilers on the forums ON PURPOSE before the game was released (even if they turned out to be fake).

    At least I've added some more to my ignore list, which was previously only at '1' (the aforementioned) in several years of reading/posting here.

    Yossarian if you want a "challenge" then play Medal of Honor Airborne on hard. And if you say you completed that in hours/couple of days then please stop gaming and become a rocket scientist.
