2K Games confirms Bioshock PS3

About a week after everyone else.

You probably thought that the existence of Bioshock for the PS3 was confirmed when we ran our somewhat unambiguously headlined piece, "Bioshock confirmed for PS3" - well, so did we, but 2K Games is publishing it, so we'll forgive it for wanting to get in on the confirming action.

In a release that's hot off the presses and burning our fingers, 2K Games says that a PS3 version is in development, and will be out in October 2008. Rather more helpfully, the firm also confirms something we've been wondering about - namely that the PS3 edition will be "enhanced", with new content and features added to it.

No details have appeared as yet of what that new content might involve, although in the EGM story which broke the existence of the PS3 version, it was fairly strongly hinted that the graphics, at least, would be pretty much the same as the 360 version.

Bioshock was, of course, one of our favourite games of 2007 - and if you're a PS3 owner who doesn't have a PC or 360 to play it on, then take it from us, this is definitely one game which is better late than never.

(Rather optimistically, 2K Games also points out that releasing it in late 2008 on the PS3 means that Bioshock will be in the running for Game of the Year awards twice in a row. Nice try, guys.)

Actually Penny Arcade confirmed the release, http://ww w.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/5... and wound up a bunch of PS3 fanboys into the process, if only all news releases were done like this
  • Cappy #3 4 years ago

    Too late.

    I don't bother with PS3 games anymore.

    LOL Penny Arcade article.

So it was mostly officially confirmed, what is it now? Hyper-confirmed? Still, I did love it on 360 and would probably play it again. i hope I get another shot at getting a Big Daddy special edition, missed out last time.
  • Icebox #6 4 years ago

I only managed to get about 3/4 of the way through Bioshock before my 360 chewed it up and died, so I'm looking forward to getting it on my PS3.

I wasn't that impressed with the game to be honest. Sure it was lovely looking with lots of rich content but i found it a bit too repetitive repetitive repetitive...

Still I when they say enhanced do they mean "we'll do a half assed job and it'll be jaggey as fook!".

"Can we also assume that all the PS3 owners that slated the game will now turn over a slightly different opinioned leaf?"

so true. I remember the comments .... "we're not interested in this,... etc"

Can we also assume 360 owners who raved about this game will now also turn over a slightly different opinioned leaf?

EDIT: Doh - 2 mins too late to state the obvious.

er... I own a 360, and still think this game is fantastic. I'm sorry.
  • Darren #11 4 years ago

BioShock is a marvellous game so I'm pleased that PS3-only owners will be able to experience it too. May even buy it again myself if these "enhancements" make it worthwhile.
  • Killerbee #12 4 years ago

I'd be interested to see what the "enhancements" are - well, if they're new gameplay features, anyway. It is a great game (played it on the PC) that deserves as wide an audience as possible. I'm not sure this amount of delay for the PS3 version is really good enough though... it looks like they're only doing it to boost the inevitable multi-platform sequel.

    Bioshock was sooooo 2007

Eurogamer are probably the last people who should be complaining about someone being late on posting news...

    ps3lol.

    Someone had to say it...
  • VMerken #16 4 years ago

Hmm wait... is this the PS3 version that was never going to be released?

Oh I see, no, it's that PS3 version that was never going to be released. Righto.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #17 4 years ago

I didn't really enjoy Bioshock. To be honest I only played the demo but it simply didn't grab me. I'm sure there are enough PS3 users out there though who will be quite happy that they will get to play Bioshock as well. Hopefully it doesn't suffer too much during the porting process but so far the Unreal Engine (it does use the Unreal Engine, doesn't it?) always ran quite well on the PS3.
  • RustyBullet #18 4 years ago

This was a great game on the 360. If the extra stuff is any good i may buy it on the PS3 as well, At least then i can say that i have 2 good games on the PS3. (the other being Drakes Fortune)
  • progearspec #19 4 years ago

Bought it once. Not buying it again.

    Even if i had a ps3.
  • Vandrius #20 4 years ago

Mmmm. I didn't mind it on PC, but it definitely was overrated.

And all this console c**p... a game like this was MADE for PC. Mouse and Keyboard, for the win. None of this joypad fps stuff.

If you aint got a half-decent PC, then by all means enjoy it on whatever second-rate console you call home :-)

"Can we also assume that all the PS3 owners that slated the game will now turn over a slightly different opinioned leaf?"

Why? Does a change of platform change anything about the fundamentals of a game? A bad port might make it worse, a good port will not make it better.
  • Darren #22 4 years ago

@Vandrius - Actually BioShock, like Deus Ex 2, Thief: Deadly Shadows and Oblivion before it, was made with the consoles and PCs in mind, and IMO as an owner of both the PC and 360 plays better with the 360 controller... even on the PC!!! :p
  • moggsy #23 4 years ago

If Bioshock was overrated, what was it overrated compared to? Which other console game blows it out of the water for atmosphere and storyline alone? If there is one then I'd genuinely like to know as I'd buy it in a shot. If there isn't then why would this outstanding game not deserve a 10?

PS3 owners should really look forward to this as despite all the naysayers as it's one of the greatest games available at this moment in time.
