29 years of BF1943 gameplay on Weds

Devs update players on stats and fixes.

In an unprecedented blow for relativity, EA and DICE report that there were some 29.45 years of gameplay completed on the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 1943 last Wednesday, with five million kills recorded.

That's significant because the duo have a clever little gimmick going on where a fourth map, Coral Sea, is unlocked once each of the two groups of players, on PS3 and 360, reaches 43 million kills overall.

(Update: A quick glance at the official site reveals a more up-to-date counter - 27.5 million kills on 360 and nearly 15 million on PS3. Thanks Scott.)

The news comes in producer Gordon Van Dyke's ongoing forum commentary (thanks Kotaku) on the technical issues causing problems for some of its players.

According to posts late last week and over the weekend, server capacity has been increased dramatically while other fixes are also in place to iron out issues some are still having joining matches.

If you're holding off until everything's fixed, you might want to keep an eye on that thread, although it's worth noting that our Battlefield 1943 review is based in large part on the retail version, and the game still invaded our hearts and planted its flag.

Do we really have to wait for the three people playing on PS3 to get to 43 million kills before we get the maps? Xbox 360 players shouldn't be punished for PS3 not having enough of an install base to hit the target before the next century!!

Game is working perfectly now. Amazing value for 10 quid!
  • AbracadaverAK #2 3 years ago

No. The map will be released on 360 when 360 users hit the 43m target.

Although if it was a joint total then I don't see how PS3 players would slow it down!

Haven't had much of a problem playing the game yesterday. Only problem was that I had to create an account on the BF1943 website rather than through the game.
Nice surprise to hear there's a fourth map. So at this rate, we'll be playing this next week?

Party/Squad system is working pretty well now. Game is an absolute blast now.
Need to get good at planes before this new map is out, though...
  • frankster #5 3 years ago

Playing Coral this weekend because Xbox gamers kick ass.

Game working fine now on 360 and I'm not surprised we're owning the PS3 crowd on kills!
  • symmetry #7 3 years ago

Am loving this right now, I'm also a bit off an ace in the cockpit :)
  • KujiGhost #8 3 years ago

I knew my Ace Combat skillz would come in useful one day!
  • collateral89 #9 3 years ago

i hope every 360 fanboy gets red ring of death you all bitch way too much.
  • gallow #10 3 years ago

I've been playing this over the weekend and no bugger on the PS3 uses their headset.

My only real grip is I need the ability to redefine the buttons as my index finger keeps slipping off L1 onto L2 causing me to crash the plane as it goes into look mode usually at the crucial moment when I need to pull up.
  • spudsbuckley #11 3 years ago

Let's all gloss over the fact that it came out later on the PS3.

    Hurrah for fanboy-ism!
  • Teamallstar #12 3 years ago

That's because the PS3 controller was designed for a 5 year old Japanese kid to be able to play platform games!

Oh, and I think you'll find that Xbox supporters tend to gloat rather than "bitch" these days!

Nothing in your post makes sense.

    @spudsbuckley

Not that I really want to get into this PS3 V 360 rubbish but the counter only started on Friday. So no console had a head-start.

"Let's all gloss over the fact that it came out later on the PS3.

That doesn't matter, as the counter didn't actually start until Friday night @ 19.43
  • spudsbuckley #16 3 years ago

Oh right. Well then it's just the crappy PS3 install base then.

Hardly a fair competition when there's more 360 players.
  • TheRook21 #19 3 years ago

CountFapula - "360 Gamers better at games am confirmed :D"

All I can see with those results is that 360 players die more...

"They need to fix the fact that your squad splits up on map change. Sometimes you'll wind up on the opposite team to your squad mates with no option to switch back... "

    For the people who haven't worked this one out yet, you can invite friends back into your squad if they drop out when you change maps, and I assume this is the same on PS3 as well;

Just press start, go to 'my squad', and invite players, whether they are in the game, the opposite team, or not. They can then accept and jump straight into your squad, as long as there are spaces on the team of course - and annoyingly, even if you are inviting someone who is on the same team, you still have to wait for a space to send the squad invite. If you're in the same game, on either side, you don't need to reload the map - and face problems reconnecting - or anything either; on the same side, they just jump into the squad, from the other team, the soldier commits suicide then swaps teams to join the squad.

Maybe I overexplained that. Oh well :/

EDIT: This is by no way ideal though, it would be better to stay in the same squad in the first place! Just saying that there is a workaround...

    @therook

    thanks for clearing that up.

  • Dodgymat #22 3 years ago

Haha, marked down 2 points just for stating a fact. Too many oversensitive PS3 pricks around here...
  • TheRook21 #23 3 years ago

I've not voted on this but good to see someone voting my comment down... :)

    Seems I hit a nerve with a 360 player :)

-3 now :D brilliant if only the negative points gave me wood... oh wait they do!

I got -20 on my original post.

What happened to everyone's sense of humour?

Back on topic, we should have the new map before the end of the week!
  • themorganator #25 3 years ago

    -21 and counting!

Speak the truth and receive negative feedback! Still, you've got to laugh. If I'd shelled out hundreds on an overpriced console that's worse on cross party titles and positively shocking when it comes to offering a credible online service, I'd give you negative feedback for pointing out the flaws too!
  • Teamallstar #26 3 years ago

Maybe people think that 10 quid is too much??
  • chubster2010 #27 3 years ago

I wish it had cross-platform play...because then I could demonstrate what it means to kick ass to you 360 owners...
  • themanfromdelmonte #28 3 years ago

So proof that 360 owners are Dole Scum.

    XBox,
    In the Night Garden,
    Jeremy Kyle,
    Smokin' the Reefer.

    THAT'S YOUR LIFE!!!!!ONEONE :p
  • MasterNameless #29 3 years ago

Somebody mentioned PS3 owners being oversensitive pricks, which may be their tendency as a whole when it comes to comments, whereas Xbox owners seem to be gloating pricks in the comments. Either way though, if you mention the other console, chances are you're all pricks!

Damn me for even aiming a comment at them, I'll probably delete it 5 seconds after posting for feeling that I'm feeding the trolls. Or maybe this disclaimer will deter me from that. \o/
  • Teamallstar #30 3 years ago

I own a PS3 and a 360... Guess that makes me an arrogant over sensitive prick?!?

    Sounds about right

1943 up to 28 million kills!!! We'll have the new map tomorrow evening at this rate.
  • Macross #31 3 years ago

lol we do have cross platform play, its called the eurogamer +/- comments war.
  • KrispyBacon #32 3 years ago

The game freezes on my Xbox 360 far too often. When it does work then the game is a alot of fun.
  • symmetry #33 3 years ago

30552840 kills! We'll definitely have this tomorrow.
  • chasejamie #34 3 years ago

43 million kills, also means 43 million deaths. Maybe the 360 gamers are crap compared to PS3 players as they keep on dying easily? Huh, well!!!! I play on the 360, and my suicide runs with C4 attached to my plane is working a treat.
  • SniperZoz #35 3 years ago

i got the demo a couple of days ago .... and i still can't connect ... keeps giving me an error connecting to ea server ...grrr!!
  • sjmlondon #36 3 years ago

If Xbox 360 owners are likely to get sufficient kills to unlock the new map around tomorrow evening shall we start a sweepstake on when PS3 owners might clock up enough kills to do the same. I'll start with Christmas ;-)
  • phantom516 #37 3 years ago

Bloody fanboy crap, get back on topic. Game is now working great on 360 , not got any problems joining games or lag myself. £10 well invested and not long to unlock coral sea counter now up to 38 million on 360 !
