25 characters in Street Fighter IV?

Unconfirmed character-select screen.

Eagle-eyed kicky-punchers at Belgium's NEXT expo in Heysel have uncovered what looks like a complete Street Fighter IV character roster.

Reports corralled by Kotaku claim that a Japanese console version of SF IV was on display, and that the game had 25 available characters.

A photo posted on Imageshack and highlighted by Shoryuken forumites supposedly shows Rose among the other previously confirmed faces. There are 26 slots, but the question mark to the right of the countdown is presumably random-select.

Up to now the official line has been that the 12 original SF II characters return, joined by newcomers Abel, Crimson Viper, Rufus and El Fuerte, with Seth, Akuma and Gouken as bosses and hidden characters, and Dan, Fei-Long, Sakura, Cammy and Gen, which makes 24. If Rose is 25, that's presumably it.

Eurogamer has contacted Capcom for comment, but we wouldn't expect much in the way of confirmation.

Street Fighter IV is due out this winter on Xbox 360 and PS3, and you can read more about it on our Street Fighter IV gamepage. A PC version is also planned.

Cool roster. Enjoyed playing this at the EG Expo even though I'm rubbish.

I'm a sucker for Street Fighter though I too am not very good at it. Had a go on an original Super Street Fighter 2 machine the other week and was shocked at how crap I was. Still downloaded it on the VC though.

This is one game I'm looking forward to. It brings back memories of seeing SF2 in the arcades for the first time.

OMG, is that Dan I see there? I hope so... he's the best.

Being called Seth, I'm very happy to see that Seth is a playable character.

I don't understand... why would you put in Zero/Alpha characters in the canon SF series, when there are awesome sf3 characters like Alex or Ibuki could be thrown in there.

And even if you were going down the SFA/Z route, why is Rolento missing.

I hate this new producer douche.

    Where's the parrying motherfuckers?

Shame I don't own a PS3/360, or a capable PC. I really want this. No chance of a Wii version?

Rose would make sense; the bottom row looks like all characters from Alpha/Zero series. Row above is all new characters and the one above that are the classic bosses. I think having Rose is great - she may look like the owner of a brothel from the old west, but she dresses with a little more modesty than most other fighting chicks.

T Hawk and Deejay were all but confirmed too. And Elena & Ibuki both heavily rumoured to be added thanks to a recent Japanese magazine cover. Dudley still gets a nod from rumourville as well. So expect more additions for the home version still, basically.

Remy sucked. Not you Remy, Remy.
  • Remy #13 3 years ago

heeey! I LOVE Remy, where'd you think my screen name comes from! ;) So I will still take that personally Ranger101 ;)
  • cherryuk #14 3 years ago

It would be perfect if they had Garuda from the EX series
  • Remy #15 3 years ago

... that said Remy does suck in terms of being an effective in-game character at high levels of play.. I will agree with that. Charge-characters always seem to get shafted the more mechanics are added to the SF2 base. I'm noting that Guile is already seen as low-tier on SF4 - although its early days yet, hopefully the home version will shake things up a bit too.

cherryuk - but Arika owns the rights to EX-only characters so I don't think Capcom can use them, well, without some dealing anyway. And I don't see why they'd want to really. SF4 had enough "SF EX 3 LOLZ" about it anyway. The weird thing is it actually DOES feel like SF EX at times IMO.

This game was the game of the expo for me.

Really felt fluid like SF3:TS, the only question is to get it on 360 or PS3? I'd have to get another arcade stick if I get it on PS3.

The misses would KILL me :D

  • neonemesis #18 3 years ago

I hope they don't include T Hawk or am I the only one who thinks he's a terrible, unbalanced character?
  • Remy #19 3 years ago

neonemesis - Yep, you're the only one I'm afraid! Hawk is really quite weak in Super Turbo, expect him to actually be playable on HD Remix though - he was a lot of fun to play in the 7 character test version of HDR I played anyway. :)

waynema - 360, then you can try to kick my ass too if you like. :D But yeh, especially if you've got a good 360 stick anyway, although you may want another one ANYWAY when you see the SF4 sticks...

360 seems to be becoming the more popular one for new fighting games too though really, which is actually surprising. I suspect it's the online play though, see VF5 for example.

I can't ID that lady in the lower left... Is that Juli/Juni? Looks like Vice from KoF, which... it obviously isn't.
edit: Ohh, Sakura, right. Couldn't see the headband. Well, suits me!

Very happy to see Fei Long there, I'd lost hope after the last rumour fizzled.

I always wanted to like T. Hawk, but apart from his air-dive, all his special moves were 360s, could never get them to behave in the SF2s.

I think it will be the 360 Remy, then I shall accept your challenge to a bout of fisticuffs!
