225 games available for PSPgo at launch

Sony America tots up PSN numbers.

Sony America has said there will be around 16,000 pieces of existing digital content on the PlayStation Store compatible with the PSPgo when it launches on 1st October.

That's 225 downloadable games, 2300 films and 13,300 TV episodes, according to figures on IGN.

The numbers are likely to be lower in Europe, as the film and TV shows have yet to be made available on this side of the Atlantic.

Ignoring those, that's still a healthy number of games, which apparently includes full PSP titles, PSN exclusives and the upcoming Minis, of which there should be 15 at launch and 50 by the end of the year.

We've asked Sony for equivalent figures for Europe.

I suspect eu figures will comprise of 2 games, 1 video and an apology because the eu region is so hard to deliver content to.
  • bad09 #2 3 years ago

at twice the price as well...
  • phycus #3 3 years ago

... twice the price only for UK, EU is £50 less for console.

    This, but without the apology.

Make the PSN version of Final Fantasy VIII available outside Japan as one of those games and it's a day one sale for me.

The PSP Go! is bloody expensive, but if I can get a decent library for it (Disgaea, God of War) then my lack of buying any UMD games in years looks ok now :)

Truly pathetic that the psp go is released in 3 days and consumers have no idea what games will be available at launch.
  • Toothball #7 3 years ago

I want to buy one of these, but unless I can play the games I'm currently playing then there's no longer any point for me. At this stage I'm even prepared to pay for them again, but if Sony aren't interested in taking it then so be it. Could really do with a more detailed list this late in the day.

Is this thing region locked or not?
  • Widge #9 3 years ago

I wouldn't expect it to be region locked, but be prepared for a bit of account management if you're planning on using multiple stores. You'll have to delete and log onto the appropriate account to play content from other stores, this requires a net connection (although I suppose the Go can hook up to a bluetooth mobile). I'd like to see multiple accounts but I guess "you're only meant to buy from 'your' store will be the mentality).

Not buying until i know i'll be able to get Disidia for it.

There are already a shedload of games on the psp store. How much more at launch is the question?

If you want to know what games are available then just go to the store folks, this isn't new, PSP games have been downloadable for an absolute age.

So 225 full games including PS1 and minis and umd legacy stuff eh?

Looking at what is on the store already reveals 118 psp games , add that to 50 PS1 games that are also currently available. That means 57 more games at launch? Give or take a few in the time remaining? That's fairly impressive. Lets see eh?!

I can't see the PSPGo being a success at all. Expensive console, fewer titles and at a higher cost. I'm expecting the price of the console to plumet.

On the optimistic side it could be sony testing the waters for the PSP2, seeing how customers take to digital content for full 'proper' games. how they can market and sell the games, seeings if/how sales figures compare to the equivilent retail umds

I want to buy one of these, but unless I can play the games I'm currently playing then there's no longer any point for me.

Over on Engadget they are reporting that Sony has abandoned the idea of a UMD trade-in or discount programme for PSP-Go; if you want to play your existing PSP games on the new device you have to rebuy them at full price.

There's no way I am going to update my PSP with one of these, it's already enough of a white elephant with barely any good and playable games.
  • Widge #14 3 years ago

Yes, barely any good games at all.
  • FladgeMangle #15 3 years ago

I was just wondering, will I be allowed to use digital content I have already purchased or will I get told that "This product is registered to a different PSP and will not function properly" as I do at the moment?

Just a thought... as I bought some games as downloads in anticipation of the 'go.

Not that I'm getting one yet, as I would rather politely decline the mugging. I'd be interested to see if early adopters have any trouble in this area though.
  • kangarootoo #16 3 years ago

    @FladgeMangle

I'm pretty sure you can register more than one PSP to a PSN account (3 at least I think, maybe 5). Are both your systems registered, 'cos if only one is I would expect you to have problems.
  • kangarootoo #17 3 years ago

P.s. If you have got a new PSP and dumped the old one, Sony support should be able to migrate your download history for you to the new serial number.
  • Edwardo #18 3 years ago

I think the PSP needs better games to start with. The fact that I have to download my games and lose the ability to play any games from my current library (all on physical UMD media).

So...I'm going to have to pay for the game to start with and then also per gig to download it (yup we pay dearly for bandwidth here in africa). Ah well...who needs handheld gaming devices anyway /sob

Going to the US middle of October so will pick one up or maybe a 300...stupid pound prices lol
  • StooMonster #20 3 years ago

Going to the US middle of October too, but will not be picking up a PSP-Go; unlike the launch of original PSP when I got one of those on launch day in US.

    Once burnt, twice shy.
  • FladgeMangle #21 3 years ago

    @Kangarootoo

Thanks, didn't realise you could register more than one. Better get it done, because come Christmas (assuming the 'Go is cheaper by then) there'll be three PSPs in the house.
  • crickson #22 3 years ago

@NotSoSlim> I'm not sure psp3000's are that much cheaper in the US, plus there is a better choice of colours in the UK. Also, new psps are quite hard to find in gamestops, walmarts etc, the format having basically sunk without a trace. I'm interested in getting a 3000 and now I live in the US I was thinking about importing one from the UK...

    Wanna swap?
  • Ryze #23 3 years ago

Sony can't do network software and services.
  • jonsaan #24 3 years ago

I am not aiming this at anyone specifically, but the usual EG comments vibe is that the psp has no games. If that's the case then why would you need to bring anything over from your UMD collection. Given that the psp has no good games anyway? Huh?! HUH??!!!

    :D

    @crickson

Thanx for the heads up, I will probably pick up a 250gb slim out there plus dsi for lil bro!! Quick question...any news on the 250gb ps3 out there? Rumored price? I have a hard drive so may just get a 120gb with demon souls n blaze blue
  • crickson #26 3 years ago

@NotSoSlim > No idea about the 250G PS3. I'd suggest you keep an eye on the US PS blog for an announcement. But then, since it's so easy and cheap to put a monster HDD in there anyway I've always been puzzled by the issue of HDD size in PS3s. I don't know why they don't supply them with a modest drive and use the money saved to give us BC back...
  • steveb07 #27 3 years ago

UMD trade in Sony? No chance.....
I'm glad I put CFW on my PSP a few months back and ebayed most of my games.
  • Nephirion #28 3 years ago

Can you copy your PSP from your UMD to the PS3 and then back to the new PSP by any chance?
