Zelda - Qua Raym, A Balanced Approach trial solution in Breath of the Wild

How to beat the Eldin region trial.

Qua Raym is one of the many Shrines located throughout Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The challenge inside, named the A Balanced Approach trial, involves a series of scales that must be raised and lowered by adding or removing objects. Of course, not all scales reach the floor, so you may have to manipulate two at once to get everything in the trial.

If you need help finding and solving other Shrines, our Shrine location maps page can help, while our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide covers other aspects of the game.

Where to find Qua Raym

This is directly west of the Eldin Tower (south of Death Mountain) on a rock in the middle of a lake of lava.

The easiest way to get there is to climb the Tower, then take aim on the island to the east. The shrine is hidden from view, but trust us, it's there.

Now glide toward the island and you should easily land there with stamina and room to spare.

Bear in mind you'll need to equip fire resistant armour along the way, and remove any wooden equipment, otherwise you'll burn up.

This shrine has you balancing objects on a sets of scales to reach the exit and treasure chests high above. There's a room opposite of where you begin with three metal crates behind lock and key, which we need to open first.

Run to that side of the room, so you're looking back where you begin, and set fire to the wooden crate on the central scales. You can do this in a couple of ways - with a fire arrow, or if you want to save those, then aim your bow, walk the arrow into one of the torches so it sets alight, then fire it at the crate.

When the arrow finishes burning, the scales closer to the altar will drop. Open the chest for a Small Key to open the door behind you to access the three metal crates.

Next is getting the bonus treasure chest up in the far corner, which requires use of the scales on the side wall. Move them out in between the two sets of scales in preparation.

First, replace the wooden crate with one of the metal crates to lower it to the ground, and stand on it.

Now put two metal crates on the left scale on the far wall to lower it down, then the other one on the right side, like so:

Now, glide down from this elevated position to the left scale, and remove one of the crates on this scale to raise it up, giving you access to the corner platform and the Knight's Claymore in the chest.

To finish the shrine and gain access to the altar, you'll need to detonate an explosive above the scale underneath the spiked ceiling. You can do this by lobbing a bomb from the ground and detonating it in the air, or by using a Bomb Arrow - your choice.

Next, go to the these central scales and put one metal crate on the side underneath the spiked ceiling - this acts as a buffer to protect you from damage when it raises up - and the other two on the other side, lifting you up - done!
