Zelda Tahno O’ah and Secret of the Cedars Shrine Quest solution in Breath of the Wild

How to beat the Hateno trial.

Tahno O'ah is one of the many Shrines located throughout Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There's no challenge inside, instead the shrine requires you to complete a Shrine Quest, named the Secret of the Cedars, which is a quest that has you use trees to navigate your way to the hidden shrine. Get there OK, and you'll walk out a success.

If you need help finding and solving other Shrines, our Shrine location maps page can help, while our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide covers other aspects of the game.

Where to find Tahno O'ah

The Tahno O'ah shrine is located within the Hateno region, specifically north-east of Hateno Village and the Hateno Research Lab. To get there, you need to follow the direction of three trees that line up on the mountain top to the north of Hateno Research Lab.

If that sounds strange, that's because it is. Don't think about it too much: just head to the line of those trees and walk in the direction they line up, eastwards, until you head down the side of the mountain and can turn around to see this, below.

The main issue here, and it's an important one, is that you'll need Level two cold resistance to get through the area to the shrine, as it's very cold up in the mountains.

Tahno O'ah and Secret of the Cedars trial solution

The easiest way to get the cold resistance required is to use the Warm Doublet that you can earn in the early stages of the game (or buy one in Hateno Village if you didn't do that quest), then cook up some cold resistance meals. For more on cooking, including a list of ingredients you can throw in to make a Spicy, cold-resisting meal, check out our comprehensive Breath of the Wild cooking guide and ingredients list!

This Shrine Quest is essentially the shrine's only puzzle. Once you've reached the location shown above, you should see the destructible rocks piled up at the bottom of the mountain face.

Destroy them with a bomb, keeping one eye on the enemies nearby, and then head inside.
