Monster Hunter World - Legiana strategy, Legiana weakness and how to get Legiana Scale, Hide, Claw, Webbing and Tail Webbing

How to beat ice wyvern Legiana.

Legiana is a mid-game encounter in Monster Hunter World, and another possible bottleneck for the unprepared, especially with its disabling ice attacks.

Whether you're tackling it in the wild or as part of the key quests, there are a number of Legiana strategies and weaknesses to learn about, and when you're ready, the many ways to get Legiana parts.

Elsewhere, our Monster Hunter World tips can help you decide when to farm, what to forage and what to do between hunts, and our Monster Hunter World walkthrough and guide can help with main quest and story progress.

How to prepare for Legiana the first time

After a few straightforward monster encounters as part of the story, Legiana is a difficulty spike you might not be ready for.

As such, we'd recommend upgrading your armour as much as possible. The previous Radobaan quest in the Rotten Vale offers the best base armour to date, though we'd also recommend doing Investigations on lesser creatures - such as the mighty Anjanath (which has a useful armour set) - for better defences.

A full complement of curative items is also advised, as Legiana can pack a punch and easily eat through your Potion reserves.

We'd also recommend unlocking the north-west camp of the Coral Highlands, as it's situated a little closer to Legiana's location in case you faint. You'll want to be cautious with this battle, so the more time you can take the better.

Legiana location

Legiana is located in the north-east of the Coral Highlands, specifically area 10. You can reach this by heading to area 8 and climbing up the wall to the north-east, or heading to region 10 then going south.

Once it has been damaged enough, Legiana will return to its nest in area 15 at the top of the map, which you can reach from climbing up area 10.

Legiana weakness and strategy

Legiana weaknesses:

  • Fire - Medium
  • Water - Low
  • Thunder - High
  • Ice - Null
  • Dragon - Low
  • Poison - High
  • Sleep - Medium
  • Paralysis - Medium
  • Blast - Medium
  • Stun - Medium

As well as being a hard hitter, the ace up Legiana's sleeve is its ice attacks. If you get hit you'll receive the Ice Blight status effect, which will hamper your stamina, making retreating quickly and avoiding its swift movements very difficult.

Thankfully, most of these ice attacks are telegraphed in time, and only happen when Legiana spreads its wings and flies around the area. One is a wide spread that is preceded by frost effects around its mouth, while another is a little more sudden, a quick flip that'll spray ice in front of it at a moment's notice.

The best way to avoid both of these is, when in flight, keep moving and stay to its sides, as ice attacks only spread out from the front of Legiana.

If you do get hit by Ice Blight, then it'll wear off in a couple of minutes, so go on the defensive and be careful. If you are struggling, then it's worth noting the full Anjanath armour set gives you the Adrenaline stamina-boosting status effect when your health is low, and makes for a nice counter.

Regardless, it's best to be preventative. Like Paolumu, it's essentially best to be extra cautious when in flight, and when it touches down, you can be a little more eager to attack.

It can still do a great deal of damage even on the ground, though, so take your time. It can also do a rare thrusting attack when in flight, in which case just keep mobile and rolling out the way to avoid it.
