Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire will be released in April

Aloth sooner than I expected.

Obsidian and Versus Evil have announced a 3rd April release date for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. The game will be available on PC, Mac and Linux.

There are three editions to consider - standard, Deluxe, and Obsidian - plus pre-order incentives. One incentive is a white hawk pet to serve as a kind of flashy parrot aboard your ship in the game - Pillars 2 has base ships, remember. Another incentive is a black pirate flag for your ship. A pirate flag!

The more expensive editions pack a few digital bonuses as well as some in-game tidbits. Most notable is the $75 Obsidian Edition, which grants you the game's first three $10 DLC expansions, which I hadn't heard about before.

Pillars of Eternity 2 will be a corker, you mark my words. What's so exciting is Pillars 2 represents the first time Obsidian has been able to go on and make a sequel to one of its own games, with all the time-consuming foundational work already in place. It means Obsidian has been able to get straight into imagining and creating and building without having to faff around with tools first.

A Pillars of Eternity 2 backer-beta launched at the end of 2017, but devoid of a lot of content. I suggest waiting unless you're really keen on helping Obsidian with the testing process.

Pillars of Eternity was a crowdfunded love-letter to the olden days of computer role-playing games, made by many of the people responsible for them. It was, in short, "the Baldur's Gate 3 we never got", our Pillars of Eternity review said. And if that doesn't convince you, I'm not sure what will.
