Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Malie City and Malie Garden

Our in-progress walkthrough for the whole Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon island challenge and beyond.

Malie City and Malie Garden are your first stops on Ula'ula Island, as things gather momentum for the second half of your Island Challenge.

Here on this page we'll explain all you need to know about the story and main events as they unfold here, and as with all pages of our walkthrough we'll highlight any and all trainers, items and wild Pokémon available to catch as well.

For more general guides and other walkthrough pages like this meanwhile, head back to our main Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Malie City

On first arrival in Malie City, following the mysterious events in Aether Paradise, you won't actually be able to venture far. As you start to wander into town from the Pokémon Center Hau will appear and challenge you to a battle!

Following that, you'll need to head north into Malie Garden and meet professor Kukui before you can get much further into town. Malie Garden's covered in the section just below, so once you're done down there pop back up to this section for the rest of the details!

After finishing up in Malie Garden, you'll task will be to meet up with Lillie at the Malie City Library. There's plenty to do before that though, including a multitude of sidequests, items to collect, and even a weird pseudo-Gym to take on!

TRAINERS POKEMON ITEMS

There are too many sidequests to list here, but one that stood out to us was earning TM76 Fly (remember it's just a TM here, as you already have Charizard Ride for flying about). Simple talk to the woman in the hat on the bottom floor of the Library and she'll give it to you. It's a handy move!

When you're done exploring, head to said library and you'll meet Lillie out the front. You'll also bump into Hapu there, the girl who you helped out back by Royal Avenue. Chat with them and head inside, and upstairs you'll meet yet another new face.

The strange, purple-haired woman here is Acerola. She'll help you both learn more about Legendary Pokémon and tales of Ultra Wormholes, after which you're free to crack on with your Island Challenge. Next stop: Hokulani Observatory, via Route 10!

For more on Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, head to our main Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon walkthrough and guide hub, which includes guides to new Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Pokémon and Pokédex changes, the Festival Plaza, a list of Global Missions and rewards, an explainer on Pokémon Bank, a dedicated page on Pokémon Competitive Training, including IV Training, EVs and hidden stats, Breeding 6IV Pokémon explained and how to farm Bottle Caps fast for Hyper Training. What's more, we have pages on the Rockruff event for getting Dusk Form Lycanroc and, last but not least, a full Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon QR codes list for adding all Pokémon to your Pokédex.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Malie Garden

Shaped like the classic region of Kanto (although I'm not sure I see it myself...) Malie Garden is a tranquil area with several trainers, items and rare Pokémon to catch.

Professor Kukui is found at the cafe in the centre of the garden, but you're free to roam as you like for now. Clear out the area of items, trainers and Pokémon, then go speak to him to move the story forward.

After you're done catching up with Kukui, your next stop is Malie City Library which we detail in the section just above.

Next up: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Route 10 and Outer Cape

Once you're done there, it's off to Route 10 and the optional Malie Outer Cape!
