Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Route 2, Hau'oli Cemetary, Big Wave Beach and Sandy Cave

Awalkthrough for your first steps in Alola.

Route 2, the Hau'oli Cemetary and the all-new Big Wave Beach and Sandy Cave area are the next three landmarks on your journey, giving you the chance to pick up some useful new Pokémon and gain an explaination of Mantine Surfing for the first time.

Here on this page we'll explain all you need to know about the story and main events as they unfold here, and as with all pages of our walkthrough we'll highlight any and all trainers, items and wild Pokémon available to catch as well.

For more general guides and other walkthrough pages like this meanwhile, head back to our main Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Route 2

As you exit Hau'oli City, Lillie will stop you to give you 3 Revives, which are handy when you're in a pinch. Up ahead on the Route proper, there are plenty of trainers, items, and Pokémon to explore.

Route 2 is essentially your first proper route, featuring all the staples of a Pokémon adventure, so drink it in!

As you reach the end of the route, towards Verdant Cavern, you'll find the Ultra Recond Squad once more, discussing the Cavern's aura of light...

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Hau'oli Cemetary

Hau'oli Cemetary, branching off to the right from Route 2, is a handy spot for finding Ghost-type Pokémon, and features a couple more trainers and items, too. It's worth the time to explore - a Gengar later in the game is very useful against prevailent Fairy-types if you teach it Poison-type moves, for instance!

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Big Wave Beach and Sandy Cave

Big Wave Beach is a new area in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, to the left of the motel on Route 2.

Head down to the beach and talk to the people there about Mantine Surfing - you can't do that yet, unfortunately, as it's the way to the next island, but you can at least get an explainer for now.

Next up: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Verdant Cavern, Captain Illima's Trial, how to defeat Totem Raticate or Totem Gumshoos for Normalium Z

Team Skull will attack, with a fairly easy Grunt for you to defeat - after that you can head over that little hill in the top corner of the beach to a second area, and collect an item before turning back.
