Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Iki Town, Starter Pokémon, and Sparkling Stone

A walkthrough for your first steps in Alola.

Iki Town, your first starter Pokémon and the Sparkling Stone are the first major milestones you'll encounter in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, taking you through the usual early steps of Pokémon tutorials and setting up the foundations of the story.

Here on this page we'll explain all you need to know about the story and main events as they unfold here, and as with all pages of our walkthrough we'll highlight any and all trainers, items and wild Pokémon available to catch as well.

For more general guides and other walkthrough pages like this meanwhile, head back to our main Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon walkthrough and guide hub.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - starter Pokémon and the prologue

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon open in much the same way as regular Sun and Moon: a mysterious girl and her mysterious Pokémon are hunted by the Aether Foundation and, in the case of the Ultra games, the Ultra Recon Squad, in a prologue to you waking up and setting up your character.

After talking to your mum and Meowth, set off for Iki Town via Route 1 - wading into the long grass will get you attacked by a wild Pokémon, but it's then that three other Pokémon - the starters Popplio, Litten and Rowlet - turn up to your rescue.

Professor Kukui follows, and that's where you get your choice of the three. Then, it's on to Iki Town just to the north. Head straight there for now, as we'll cover Route 1 in a little more detail on the next page.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Iki Town and the Sparkling Stone

When you reach Iki town you'll encounter Hau, your chipy rival and best friend who played the same role in standard Sun and Moon. He chooses a Pokémon, and then it's time for your first battle against him - and your first battle in Ultra Sun and Moon!

For more on Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, head to our main Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon walkthrough and guide hub, which includes guides to new Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Pokémon and Pokédex changes, the Festival Plaza, a list of Global Missions and rewards, an explainer on Pokémon Bank, a dedicated page on Pokémon Competitive Training, including IV Training, EVs and hidden stats, Breeding 6IV Pokémon explained and how to farm Bottle Caps fast for Hyper Training. What's more, we have pages on the Rockruff event for getting Dusk Form Lycanroc and, last but not least, a full Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon QR codes list for adding all Pokémon to your Pokédex.

Your main task for the moment is finding the Melemele Island Kahuna. They're supposed to be in Iki Town but are nowhere to be seen for now. Kukui suggests the Ruins of Conflict, which are through a path to the north again.

Head onto that path and follow it... until you find that mysterious girl from earlier, Lillie, and her Pokémon Cosmog (nicknamed Nebby) in trouble on the bridge. Rescue them - this time it's with an actual battle against the Spearow! - and after that battle and a cutscene you'll see something sparkling on the floor nearby.

Lillie will give you the Sparkling Stone found on the floor. Head back into town where the Kahuna - named Hala - shows up for the first time.

Kahuna Hala suggests that the Sparkling Stone is a significant gift from the Tapu that saved you up on the bridge. He'll take the stone for now, whilst Kukui gives you your Pokédex and a Trainer Passport to get you started.

Next up: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - Route 1, Professor Kukui's Lab

That's it for now - you'll need to come back the next day for the Iki Town Festival, so it's time to rest up! After finishing your chat with Kukui, Hala, Hau and Lillie, you'll appear back at home.
