Darkest Dungeon's next DLC expansion is the farm-themed The Color of Madness
And there's news on the Switch port too.
Developer Red Hook has announced The Color of Madness, the latest paid DLC expansion for its superb Lovecraftian stress box, Darkest Dungeon.
The Color of Madness will be the third paid expansion for Red Hook's visually striking, relentlessly punishing turn-based RPG, following on from The Crimson Court and the more recent, smaller-scale Shieldbreaker DLC.
"Some hateful shard of alien origin has streaked through the night sky, crashing into the old Miller's farm on the outskirts of the Hamlet!", says Red Hook, "Those unfortunate enough to witness the Comet's arrival have been blinded by what they can only describe as a shifting, ephemeral hue of damnably abrasive intensity. There has been no word from the farm in a fortnight, save for the unearthly groaning that echoes from the ruin of the mill..."
To that end, The Color of Madness will feature a new farm-themed area, and an appropriately agricultural new enemy faction in the form of Miller and his farmhands who "roam the area around the windmill, spreading the all-consuming influence of the Comet's light."
Red Hook's expansion will also bring new trinkets, purchasable from the Nomad Wagon using Comet Shards, plus a new quest type which sounds an awful lot like a horde mode.
"Get lost in time and space as you confront unending waves of enemies, new and old," says Red Hook of the new quest type, "pushing ever closer to the crash site of the Comet. Survive as long as you can stomach, and compare your highest kill count with friends and rivals alike!" The Color of Madness is due to arrive some time in the spring of 2018, and pricing details will be announced closer to release.
Elsewhere, Red Hook has revealed that the previously PC-only Shieldbreaker DLC will arrive on PS4 and Vita tomorrow, Wednesday December 6th, in both North America and Europe. The Crimson Court and Shieldbreaker are also confirmed for iPad release at a later date.
Finally, Red Hook has given an update on the recently announced Switch version of Darkest Dungeon, which, the studio hopes, will release early in the new year "if all goes well". Both The Crimson Court and Shieldbreaker DLC will be available on Switch at launch.
