Super Mario Odyssey - Fossil Falls and using the T-Rex

How to complete the Cascade Kingdom objective.

Fossil Falls and Our First Power Moon are objectives you'll encounter early on in Super Mario Odyssey, which follow on from Super Mario Odyssey - Capy and how to beat the first Irish Broodal.

You'll find our full walkthrough for them here, whilst you can head back to our main Super Mario Odyssey guide, walkthrough and tips hub for plenty more on all aspects of the game!

Fossil Falls and using the T-Rex

It's time to explore our first proper kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey. Power Moons are our main collectible here (as well as rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser, of course), and they'll help power your ship to new kingdoms.

Each consecutive kingdom will have a minimum amount you need to collect in order to unlock the next one. To track how many you need look for the list at the top left-hand side of your screen. You'll need to fill the empty circular slots to meet the minimum requirements for that kingdom.

For this kingdom, you need a minimum of five Power Moons to unlock the Sand Kingdom. To begin your adventure, run across the Bowser Flag in front of you to create a checkpoint (Waterfall Basin).

Need more help? Our Super Mario Odyssey guide and walkthrough goes through every objective in each Kingdom, while our Power Moon locations can help you track down the likes of Cascade Kingdom Power Moons, Sand Kingdom Power Moons, Metro Kingdom and New Donk City Power Moons and more collectables. We also have Purple Coin locations for each Kingdom, and if you want to know what to spend it on, we have a hats list, outfits list, stickers list, a souvenirs list as well as a music list to kit out the appearance of both Mario and the Odyssey. Once you've finished the game, check out the free Balloon World update, too.

Now head up the ramp to your right-hand side and avoid the colourful spiked enemies that appear (these foes respawn after a few seconds, so don't hang around too long). You can't jump on top of them, but you can throw Capy at them to make them explode.

When you reach the top, you'll see a Chain Chomp next to a glowing rock - your very first Power Moon is waiting inside. To continue, throw Capy at the Chain Chomp to possess it. You can now use its pouncing attack to your advantage.

To do this, pull back on the left analog stick and align the red chevrons that appear so you're aiming at the glowing rock. Now let go of the analog stick to destroy the rock, revealing your first Power Moon. Now press 'LZ' to de-possess the Chain Chomp, run over and collect your prize.
