UPDATE: Capcom's released the first trailer for Ed, the next DLC character for Street Fighter 5.
Ed looks a bit like a cross between Balrog and M. Bison, which makes sense given he's a clone of M. Bison and was taken in by Balrog.
Here's the official blurb from Capcom:
- Ed, the young commander, is the next character to join Street Fighter 5 as part of the Season 2 Character Pass. Previously appearing in the story of Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter 4, Ed's experimental body aged him beyond his years until he was ready for battle.
- Having been raised by Balrog, his fighting is centered on boxing, but Ed is enhanced by the Psycho Power carried within his genes from M. Bison. Use this power to perform special moves like the Psycho Snatcher V-Skill, Psycho Cannon V-Trigger and Psycho Barrage critical art.
And here's an interesting line on how Ed works, from Capcom Unity:
- What makes Ed especially unique is how players perform his special moves. His special moves have simple inputs; they only require simultaneous button presses, repeatedly pressing a button, or holding down a button. Only Ed's Critical Art is done by inputting a traditional motion.
ORIGINAL STORY: The next Street Fighter 5 DLC character has leaked.
A listing on the PlayStation Store (via NeoGAF) revealed Ed as the next DLC character for season two of Street Fighter 5, following the release of Akuma and Kolin.
Ed is one of Street Fighter's lesser-known characters. He appeared in Street Fighter 5's story as the protégé of Balrog and wields the same Psycho Power as M. Bison.
But he first appeared in Super Street Fighter 4, as a part of Balrog's ending. In that game he is a young, nameless Bison clone who survives the destruction of a S.I.N. laboratory. Balrog takes him in, hoping to use his power to his advantage.
The new model for Ed suggests he's now older than he appears in Street Fighter 5's story. This makes sense in the context of the cinematic story A Shadow Falls being set after the individual character background stories, and Ed being a fast-growing clone, as F.A.N.G. suggests.
Street Fighter fans have already noticed Ed looks a bit like Abel from Street Fighter 4. Perhaps he'll play like a mix of Abel and M. Bison? Capcom will no doubt make an announcement soon.
