Zelda - Dow Na’eh and The Three Boxes Trial solution in Breath of the Wild

How to beat the Hateno region trial.

Dow Na'eh is one of the many Shrines located throughout Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The challenge inside, named the Three Boxes trial, is a puzzle that has you move three chests and a large cube with Magnesis. Get it right, and you'll walk out a success.

If you need help finding and solving other Shrines, our Shrine location maps page can help, while our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide covers other aspects of the game.

Where to find Dow Na'eh

The Dow Na'eh shrine is located within the Hateno region, specifically Due north of Hateno Tower, behind a waterfall. To get there, jump off the top of Hateno Tower and paraglide as far north as you can, until you reach a river in the mountains flowing towards a waterfall and some ancient ruins.

Once there, you actually enter via a cave, rather than through the waterfall. Find a high spot above the river where it meets the waterfall, and paraglide down until you can face the front of the waterfall itself.

The entrance is a hard to make out cave, to the right of the waterfall, just under a bit of grassy growth on the rock face. Land on the platform in front of it and walk through to reach the hidden Shrine.

First up, you'll see a large pressure plate in the centre of the room. You need to place a total of three chests on this, using your Magnesis rune, to hold it down.

The first is in the water just to the right of the pressure plate.

The second is on a platform going up and down mechanically, ahead of you and to th right.

The third is high up on the left, out of reach from ground level. You can either make the platform fall by shooting it with fire arrows, shooting the ropes holding it with normal arrows, or trying to find a spot close enough to move it with Magnesis.

Put all three of these on the pressure plate, then head to the door on the lower level of the platform.

Pull the metal cube out with Magnesis, and place it on top of the elevator platform.

Use that to get up onto the second level on the left, then from the second level onto the metal cube, and from the cube onto the top level.

Once you're up there, collect your reward and it's job done!
