The new Unreal Tournament is still chugging along

January update reveals raft of changes.

Epic is still beavering away making the new Unreal Tournament, a game first announced in May 2014.

The developer just put out a new update for the old-school arena shooter, which adds the new Flag Run game mode. There's also a new prototype weapon, the Lightning Rifle.

Flag Run combines elements of Capture the Flag and Assault. As with the rest of the game, it's a work in progress. There's more in the video below and the blog post on the Unreal Tournament website.

Epic is building the new Unreal Tournament alongside the series' community. It bills it as a collaboration between gamers, developers and Epic. It looks like there's still a lot of work left to do (the game's still in a pre-alpha state), but it is playable.
