Destiny Competitive Spirit book - Rewards, tags and milestones to complete in the latest event book

What to expect from The Dawning's own record book.

The Competitive Spirit book is the fourth record book we've seen in Destiny to date, after the concept debuted with SRL this time last year. Following hot on the heels of Rise of Iron's Record Book in September, this one focuses exclusively on The Dawning's two modes - the return of Sparrow Racing League, and the debut of Strike Scoring.

Unlike SRL's book last year, this is entirely free for Rise of Iron owners - giving you a smattering of rewards, from Emblems to Ornaments, Shaders and all-new tags - and appears in your book collection as soon as you start The Dawning.

To get started, visit Amanda Holliday in the Tower (go right as soon as you enter, and she'll be up the first set of steps on the right) and pick it up, allowing you to log your progress in both events.

Competitive Spirit rewards and Tags in Destiny

Completing milestones in the book gives you experience points which help you reach a number of ranks and their respective rewards:

Sparrow Racing (SRL, Page 2)

In It To The Finish - "Complete Sparrow Races" (25 total)

Simply play a number of SRL 2016 races. You won't need to place anywhere in particular, but simply reaching the finish line will get you this objective.

Precision Racing - "Pass through gates in Sparrow races" (1000 total)

In races, you'll have speed-boosting gates that you want to hit in succession to increase your top speed. You'll be hitting these naturally as you try and win each race, and should get few a fair amount of them as you complete the above 'In It To The Finish' milestone.

Tricky - "Land tricks during Sparrow races" (100 total)

Provided you have a Trick Sparrow, when you you hit off jumps, you can perform tricks in the air by letting go of the gas and hold R2, followed by either a direction on the left analogue stick or an emote with the D-Pad. As you play tracks and learn their layouts, you'll come to know the places you can safely pull off a trick and land them successfully. If you perform several tricks a lap, you should get this comfortably within playing the 'In It To The Finish' milestone.

Speed Bumps - "Defeat enemies in Sparrow races" (50 total)

As you play races, you have the opportunity to mow down enemies as you go. This will be one of the more difficult milestones to tick off, as they aren't always on the optimal racing path, nor do enemies automatically die when you bump into them.

Focus on the other objectives, and if you have this remaining, it might be worth spending a more few races concentrating on enemy clearance to tick this off the list.

Some gates are easier to hit than others, but you should hit a good 50 per race if you're following them from one to the next.

Rad Racer - "Bear the par race time on Campus Martius (5:30 minutes)

As with other par milestones, learning the correct racing lines and the speed-boosting gates - as well as getting a deathless run - will help you narrow down your time to get this under par. We have some course guides in our SRL 2016 page.

Maximum Velocity - "Bear the par race time on Infinite Descent" (5:30 minutes)

Sand Speeder - "Bear the par race time on Shining Sands" (5:30 minutes)

Slalom - "Bear the par race time on Haakon Precipice" (5:30 minutes)

Vanguard Elite (SRL, Page 2)

Heroic High Score - "Beat the par score in the Heroic SIVA Crisis Strike Playlist. (Score of 40,000)

The trick to getting a high score in any Vanguard Elite is taking the time to clear all enemies as you go, since it's less dependant on the way you kill individual enemies, and more notching up points from enemy types and streaks, achieved by getting three kills in quick succession with one weapon type. If you struggle to get this the first few times, then hopefully the playlist will deal you a Strike you are more comfortable with. Getting higher Light levels will help, too.

Champion of Night - "Beat the par score in Nightfall Strikes." (Score of 55,000)

As with the above, the trick to getting a high score in Vanguard Elite - particularly the Gold medal, which is essentially what you're aiming for - is taking the time to clear all enemies as you go, since it's less dependant on individual techniques and more notching up points from enemy kills. Streaks also help to add additional points.

Of course, Nightfall is a much tougher challenge. If you're struggling long term, then upping your Light levels and ensuring you're playing to any elemental burns (wait a week until one favours your loadout better) then try again.

Scores of Scores - "Earn cumulative score in Rise of Iron's Strike playlists." (Score of 500,000)

This is a case of playing many Strike playlists or Nightfalls. You'll get it naturally over time, but if you need to make up for lost time, then the lower level SIVA Crisis playlist could be useful in churning out a number of Strikes quicker without having to contend with difficult modifiers.

Bounty Hunter - "Complete Vanguard Elite Bounties" (20 total)

Five new Bounties will be posted alongside the usual Vanguard and Crucible Bounties. Take a note of their requirements before you start playing, and try and tick them off as you play. Since only 20 Bounties are required, you could technically do it within four days, but even casual play means you'll get these fairly easily. Note that Zavala's Elite bounties don't count towards this milestone.

Pot of Gold - "Rapidly earn Primary, Special, and Heavy Streak Medals to earn Rainbow Medals in Rise of Iron Strike playlists. (5 total)

To earn a Rainbow Medal, you need to get Primary, Special and a Heavy Streak back-to-back. The 'rapidly' part in this description is a little misleading, as it's the individual streaks themselves that require rapid kills. You can kill three enemies in reasonably quick succession with a Primary, you can then take as long as you need to get the following Special streak, and then the Heavy streak. It's only the order that's important. Deaths don't appear to reset your progress for a Rainbow Medal either.

In short, you have time to look at streak opportunities for each stage - such as a small group of lower-tier enemies to pick off one after another - before changing weapon type and aiming to get three or more kills. Once you get the third streak-type, you'll get a Rainbow medal.

Killing Spree - "Earn Spree Medals in Rise of Iron Strike playlists" (250 total)

A spree has you kill six enemies in a row with one weapon type reasonably quickly. There is a small window of wiggle room between kills, but you need to be consistent in going from one enemy to the next. The best way to tackle this is to plan ahead - observe where enemies will funnel into an area from, or wait until a cluster appear before attempting a spree.

It would also help to work with others so you can call on a certain area as being 'yours', so another player doesn't come in and cut your spree short. 250 is a large number, but if you play with sprees in mind, you should get it sooner than later.

Super Hero - Earn Super Medals in Rise of Iron Strike playlists. (50 total)

There are a variety of Super medals, but the best way to get these is to use Supers that take out as many enemies and produce as many orbs as you can. Tweak your playstyle and sub-class with these in mind (the Hunter's Golden Gun has various ways to increase the number and strength of shots, for example) and you'll get these eventually.

If you're in the mindset of playing for sprees and streaks, it's easy to forget your Super is there - so remember to make use of it.

All the Medals - Earn Completion Medals in Rise of Iron Strike playlists. (20 total)

These Medal types drop when you finish a Strike in Vanguard Elite (such as Bronze, Silver or Gold), get under the par time (as with the Nightfall) or complete a Strike without dying, so it's a case of finishing as many as you can to rack these up. You'll be running plenty of Strikes as part of the other milestones, so you'll get this along the way.
