Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare disc required to play Modern Warfare Remastered

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered requires the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare disc be inserted in order to play.

That's if you buy Infinite Warfare on disc. As you'd expect, if you download the game you don't need the disc.

Charlie Intel spotted that the recently-launched Modern Warfare Remastered page on the Call of Duty website includes the following note:

Activision had already caused a stink by forcing people to buy the more expensive Legacy, the Legacy Pro or the Digital Deluxe edition of Infinite Warfare in order to play the hotly-anticipated Modern Warfare Remastered.

Now it looks like Activision is having a stab at discouraging people from trading in Infinite Warfare as soon as they download Modern Warfare Remastered.

As you'd expect, the news hasn't gone down well. There's a Reddit thread packed with complaints that paint Activision is a thoroughly negative light.

Countering the negativity are a few comments from people who suggest Activision had no choice but to block people from buying Infinite Warfare, getting the free game that comes with it, then selling Infinite Warfare for as much as possible or maybe even getting a full refund.

All the while, Infinity Ward is making what looks like a good Call of Duty game in Infinite Warfare. So it's a shame that the developer's efforts are being overshadowed by the policies of its publisher.
