Iranian historical drama 1979 Revolution is now on iOS

iNK Stories' historical drama 1979 Revolution is now available on iOS devices.

Priced at £3.99 / $4.99, 1979 Revolution follows the exploits of a young photojournalist named Reza Shirazi as he returns to his homeland of Iran after studying abroad. There's civil unrest as much of the country is revolting against its tyrannical ruler, the Shah, but the old adage that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" doesn't play out as various factions, friends and family have conflicting ideas about the direction they want their country to go in.

1979 Revolution was made by primarily Iranian developers. Director Navid Khonsari (who also directed Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and voiced the Taken in Alan Wake) was born and raised in Iran and lived through its cultural revolution, while many of the contributors on this project had to remain anonymous for the safety of their families. Indeed Khonsari himself is no longer welcome in Iran as a tabloid there branded him a spy upon the announcement that he was making a game about the Iranian Revolution.

I highly recommended 1979 Revolution upon its PC and Mac release in April. "It's a mesmerising proof of concept - that video games can operate as historical fiction/pseudo-documentaries without dumbing down complex, controversial subject matter," I wrote in my 1979 Revolution review. In other words, it's a compelling narrative-driven adventure and you'll likely learn something from it.
