Fallout 4: Far Harbor - The Way Life Should Be

Explore the VIM! Pop factory and decide the fate of Acadia in our guide to this quest in Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC.

It's time to skulk through the VIM! Pop factory - a drinks factory to rival Nuka Cola with a brand name styled like those godforsaken POP! Vinyl - to learn DiMA's secret. He's actually a person? He's Nick's father? He uses too many capital letters in his name to compensate for lacking in another department? All will be revealed.

Head into the main foyer and deal with the Super Mutants and their mutts, allowing you to explore in peace. Now head through the door on your left and through the hole in the wall on the right of that room. Go right to the top of the stairs and have a scavenge around, hack into the terminals, clear out the safe and then go through the main door to the VIM! Factory Roof.

Fight your way through the Super Mutants on the roof, being extra careful of the lone suicider who can catch you in close quarters - listen for the beeps. If you head to the objective marker you should find yourself at a door to VIM! Factory. Head in.

Guess what's in here? That's right, more mutants. Use VATS and blast them all into the vats of fizzy drink. If you're after an optional fight, there's a giant Super Mutant called Grun locked behind a huge security door in the East side of the factory's ground level. Head North, then West, North, then East and you will see the massive doors housing him. This guy is what the Fat Man mini-nuke launcher was invented for.

Once you're done there, head back to the marker on the other side of the factory floor. Unlock - or get Nick to unlock - the terminal once you're there, then head up the elevator. Dig up what you find. If you go through the door to your left you can now get access to the medical room, assuming you have Nick with you. There's a unique shotgun/rifle hybrid in here called December's Child. Now it's time to leave.

There's some VIM! Power armour tucked away in an upper office at the West of the factory, almost dead centre, at the very edge. You should pass it if you follow the default waypoint marker. One advantage to leaving in power armour is being able to just hop down from the roof safely.

Now go back to Best Left Forgotten, find the final location and then come back here for the rest once you have the nuclear launch key in your hands.

Let's head back to Acadia and fill Kasumi in on the revelations.

If you talk to Kasumi and fill her in, you have the choice of telling her Acadia is worth saving or saying it will burn. The former will convince her to wait it out and see what happens, as will the latter - the only real difference is that doing the latter will piss off Kasumi and Valentine, while also causing you to miss out on a reward. Probably don't be a dick.

Now it's time to decide the fate of Acadia. If you don't want to know specifics about the choices and consequences ahead, look away now. If you want to see multiple different outcomes, this is the point you want to make a fresh save.

Confront DiMA

There are two ways to resolve this quest when speaking to DiMA. Your first is to confront DiMA about the skeletons in his island-sized closet. If your persuasion stat is high enough, you can convince him to turn himself in to Far Harbor. DiMA will be killed, and it'll come down to how silver your tongue is and how many side quests you've tackled whether the town marches on Acadia with ill intentions or not. Choosing this option means you still need to decide whether you want to destroy Far Harbor or The Nucleus via Cleansing The Land.

Option two, and the way to unlock the best ending, is to listen to DiMA and accept his alternative approach to resolving the situation. This will trigger a new quest, Reformation.

Reveal the truth to Far Harbor

For this you need to head back to the human settlement and confront Avery, tell angry Allen what you know and ask Teddy to examine the skull. Once you show Allen the proof after this sequence of events, there's no going back. Again, it's down to side quests and your charisma stat whether Avery will be killed at this point.

No matter what you do, Far Harbor will march on Acadia, killing Kasumi in the process. Good job on the rescue mission. As with the first DiMA solution, you still need to decide whether you want to destroy Far Harbor or The Nucleus via Cleansing The Land.

You are either done now, or you will want to see things to their conclusion with Fallout 4: Far Harbor - Reformation (the best ending)...
