Chapter 22: A Thief's End

Swim towards the ship. As you approach, there'll be a slight noise and a small flash of light that you can easily miss as half the front of the ship gets demolished.

  • Treasure: Mughal Egg Pendant - About halfway to the ship, swim right and look for a large light rock just below the surface. Underneath is a cave - dive in and grab the egg from the far end.

Keep swimming, then climb in through the hole, up the ramp to the next level, out onto the main deck, and then drop through the hole into a hold full of shinies. Make your way past all the fabulous wealth, open the hatch, and head into the smoke-filled room ahead.

The fencing section of this final confrontation is essentially a QTE without the button prompts. Watch which way Rafe lifts his sword before he strikes and hit the appropriate button to dodge: if he lifts his hand up and to your left hit [TRIANGLE] when he swings, and if he crosses it for a backhand then hit [CIRCLE] when he swings. Sometimes he makes direct slashes which are harder to judge, and his double or triple attacks require blocking individually - they're easy to read, but you need to be quick on the draw. It's also helpful to keep yourself in the centre of the room if you can, as there are a couple of obstacles and the camera angle can become unhelpful if you get cornered.

After a few slashes you'll push him up against the wall, but he'll fight back and you'll have to mash [TRIANGLE] for a bit to stay alive, and then you'll have a sword of your own. You can make swings at him with [SQUARE], but he's pretty good at blocking, so instead wait for him to swing, block, and then you'll be prompted to hit [SQUARE] and get in a free hit or two.

There'll be a couple of cycles of sword fight/mash [TRIANGLE] and then you'll be knocked to your feet and Rafe will start monologuing - so often the downfall of the criminally insane. Hit [TRIANGLE] when Sam tosses your sword back, then there'll be a short QTE, and the curtain will fall on Rafe's dastardly deeds in a fairly final fashion.

After the cutscene, make a swim for freedom, and watch the final chapter come to a close…

Epilogue

This is similar to A Normal Life and The Brothers Drake - lots of things to look at, some calling back to previous games, some to this game, and some referring to adventures we can only imagine. Once you're done with Crash Bandicoot again, explore the house as thoroughly or as little as you like, then head outside and to the next building.

  • Optional Conversation: Once you're on the beach, head to the dock and “talk” to the dog.

Things to look at in the house:

Your bedroom:

  • Crash Bandicoot case on the floor in front of the TV.
  • Nameless City graphic novel on bookcase.

Parents' bedroom:

  • Photo album by the window.

Small lounge:

  • Polaroid camera.
  • Gittern on the right of the large wooden cupboard.
  • Record player by the window.

Utility room:

  • Feed the dog a milkbone from the jar on the shelves by the door (you can do this twice).

Kitchen:

  • Fridge.
  • Letter from Sam and Sully on the end of the counter.

Porch decking:

  • Pamphlet about India on the railing to the left of the steps.

Outside:

  • Coolbox at the end of the dock.

Things to look at in the office:

  • Artefact cleaning station to the left as you enter the building.
  • Research sketches to the right of the cleaning station.
  • Photos and press cuttings to the left of the internal doorway. Use L2 to zoom in and examine individual items.
  • Chart on the desk to the right.
  • Photograph in the darkroom on the left side of the main area.
  • Magazine on the desk in the back right of the main room. This hides the keys needed to open the cupboard of mystery.

Inside the cupboard:

  • Holster hanging on left door.
  • Cross of Saint Dismas on the middle shelf on the left.
  • Doubloon on the other end of the same shelf.
  • Pirate coin on the lower shelf in the middle.
  • Notebook with bullet hole in the left drawer.
  • Glowing resin in the right drawer.
  • Cipher disk on the bottom right shelf.
  • Silver skull on the top right shelf. This will reveal the journal you grabbed in The Brothers Drake.
  • Journal - reading this will effectively end the game, so leave it until you're completely ready.
