Uncharted 4 - Chapter 12: At Sea
Nate and Sam explore remote islands by boat in this chapter, and there are treasure locations, journal entries and a puzzle to find.
Now we head off the coast of Madagascar to explore some small, remote islands by boat. Here's a walkthrough of Uncharted 4's 12th chapter, complete with a guide to treasure locations, optional conversations, where to find journal entries, and a puzzle solution.
If you're aiming for all the collectibles, ignore the story for now and take a tour around the water. Heading right round the outside of the islands from the starting point:
- Treasure: Panamanian Pendant - In the back left of a very small beach area just before the channel between the two islands. (There's a rock jutting out on the corner and a solitary palm tree on the beach.)
- Treasure: Persian Leather Notebook Case - Carry on ahead and pass through a natural arch in the rock. Move the boat towards the bit of rock that's poking out and jump from the roof onto it. Climb up to the higher ledge to find this.
- Treasure: Combination Lock Tobacco Box - Pass through another natural arch and keep going until you come to a large cove. The treasure is amongst some ruined barrels at the far right corner.
- Treasure: Brass Pocket Sundial - Head out to sea from the cove to a small island and you'll find a shipwreck. Dive inside it to recover this.
- Journal Note: Amongst the barrels and other detritus on the beach near the wreck.
- Journal Entry: Examine the ship as you approach it.
- Journal Note: Keep heading round the main island and you'll find another large cove. The note is in a cave in the rear right.
- Journal Entry: Examine the wooden cross in the other corner of the cove.
Now to the plot: From the starting position, head right a little and turn left into the channel between the two islands. Make for the beach on the right and climb your way up to the tower, head inside, climb up, head outside through the window, and continue your ascent until you can get back inside. Examine the circular symbol on the wall and then return to the boat.
- Journal Entry: Head down the slippery slope near the tower and examine the skeleton tied to a post.
- Treasure: Silver and Wood Tankard - From the skeleton, turn almost 180 degrees to your right and you'll see a rock with a small gap along the front. The tankard is hidden in the grass at the left hand end.
- Treasure: Persian Silver Pen Box - In a small cave in the cliff to the right of the skeleton.
Follow the arrows around the water - most of them are submerged and take you on quite a tortuous route, so if you want to take a shortcut just head left around the back of the larger island, and there's a hidden cave entrance to the left after you pass through the second natural archway.
Park your boat next to the large stone pillar in the middle of the cave and climb to the top. Head to the right and use your rope to swing across, then climb left and drop to the ground. Head outside and make your way across to the large building ahead.
- Treasure: Decani Bronze Spouted Bowl - Drop into the small stream and head right. The treasure is just round the corner up some steps.
The main entrance is blocked, so head left and climb up the rocks into a small cave. Clear the blockage, head through the gap, and then jump for the handholds to the left. Work your way round and up and cross the top of the narrow stone arch to the left. Head forwards and bear left, under the rope bridge, and boost Sam up the ladder. When he crosses the bridge it'll collapse, but you can use the right hand end as a ladder to climb up. Head left, jump over the gap, and climb up.
- Treasure: Mughal Elephant Carving - Inside a small cave to the right before climbing up the collapsed bridge.
Make your way across to Sam via the wooden planks. Attach your rope to the tree and drop down on the seaward side of the stone outcrop.
- Optional Conversation: Stand with Sam on the end of the rocky outcrop before you climb down, and talk to him when he mentions the view.
Swing across to the handholds, climb up and left, and then use your rope to swing across the gap. Climb the rocks to the right then jump to the rock behind you, use your rope to swing across, and then wall-run to the right. Climb into the small cave and then use the handholds to reach another tower.
- Treasure: Ottoman Helmet - Inside the ground floor of the tower.
Climb up the outside of the tower to the very top, and then use your rope to swing from the wooden beam over the top of the cliff opposite.
- Treasure: Deccani Bronze Vase - Slow your swing a little and land on the cliff top. Drop and grab the edge and work your way right onto the neighbouring platform to find this.
You'll land on a slippery slope, so steer left when you land to avoid certain death.
- Treasure: Strange Relic - At the bottom of the slope head left to the cliff edge, climb the handholds on the left, and look across the gap - there's what looks like a birdbath opposite, and above it but just out of reach is a rope anchor. Take a running jump off the edge towards the birdbath and hit L1 at the apex of your jump to swing across.
Drop down onto another slope to the right and use your rope at the bottom to swing across. Head round the short passageway and use your rope again and drop down to the bottom.
- Journal Entry: Instead of sliding down the second slope, head for the bottom of the first. There's a small ledge you can climb up - drop down the other side and follow the series of ledges down, and then look at the statue opposite.
- Treasure: Hamsa Mythical Goose - When you're hanging from the second rope, climb up until you're at the same height as the statue's feet, then swing over to it and climb into the alcove.
- Journal Entry: Head into the room with the murals and blueprints and examine the diorama in the centre.
- Optional Conversation: Examine the five items in the map room and the one in the supply room, then talk to Sam.
- Treasure: Pique Tortoiseshell Box - From the supply room, drop into the water and swim to your right. Climb up the slope and the item is hidden between some bushes to the left.
Enter the room with the statue ahead and stand on the stone plate, then help Sam lift the door to enter another puzzle room.
Chapter 12 puzzle solution
The goal is to line up the appropriate symbols with the patches of light by rotating the symbols and moving them left or right. The symbols rotate by pressing [SQUARE] when they're over the small ovals on the wall, and they can be moved clockwise or anticlockwise with the left stick.
Lower symbols:
- Move to the right until the moon is over the small oval.
- Rotate 3 times.
- Move left until the N is on the small oval.
- Rotate 6 times.
- Move left until the symbols are lined up.
Middle symbols:
- Turn the camera behind you and move left until the symbol with 3 lines is on the oval next to the moon on the lower ring.
- Rotate 4 times.
- Move right until the symbol with one line is over the oval (the one with three lines should be just to the left of the W).
- Rotate twice.
- Move left until the symbols are lined up.
Top symbols: (This is more complicated as the symbols also rotate when you move them.)
- Move right until Venus (the circle-cross symbol) is over the oval to the right of its light.
- Rotate twice.
- Move left until Mars (the circle-arrow symbol) is over the oval above the W.
- Rotate 4 times.
- Move right until the symbols line up.
Head to the illuminated alcove and pull the lever to ascend. Climb the cliff to your left, jump to the handholds opposite, zipline down the rope, and head through the short tunnel. Drop down to the left, get back in the boat, and return to the island with the first tower.
- Journal Entry: Stand in front of the base of the Avery statue and look up at him.
Climb up the Avery statue and look through the telescope to end the chapter.
