Dark Souls 3 Bone Shard Locations

A simple and straightforward guide to getting those Estus-boosting collectibles.

If you've spent any time with Dark Souls - even if you never got beyond the Taurus Demon - then you'll be familiar with rare, health-restoring Estus and already know to seek it out. Dark Souls 3 changes things slightly. First, you get Estus Shards which can be collected to increase the number of charges an Estus Flask may hold - you can learn where to find those by referring to our Dark Souls 3 Estus Shard Location guide. Alongside that, there are also Bone Shards which can be collected and burned to increase the amount of HP each Estus Flask charge will restore.

The blacksmith, in case you're really early on in the game, is found at the Firelink Shrine, the location of which is detailed at the bottom of the first page of our Dark Souls 3 guide. You may also benefit from our guide to Dark Souls 3 basics and best farming spots.

Got all that? Good. Now, on with the bone shard locations.

Foot of the High Wall
From the Dilapidated Bridge bonfire, head through the arches to the area where you're bombarded by spears. To the right of the white tree is a corpse holding the Shard.

Cathedral of the Deep
After passing through the graveyard, crossing the narrow bridge, and turning right, drop down to the area to the right to find another white tree with a nearby Shard.

Farron Keep
Located inside the tower closest to the door that you need to open by extinguishing the three fires.

Catacombs of Carthus
Outrun the first ball of bones down the stairs and through the arch. When it hits the wall ahead it'll shatter and drop another Shard.

Irithyll of the Boreal Valley
Starting from the Church of Yorshka bonfire, head down the small flight of steps and follow the graveyard round to the right. The Shard can be found next to the large tombstone at the end.

Profaned Capital
This is handily located on a corpse right next to the Profaned Capital bonfire. You'll have to try quite hard to miss it, really.

Lothric Castle
From the Dragon Barracks bonfire, head to the stone bridge towards where the dragons duked it out and drop down into the stone ditch below to find a Shard under the bridge.

Smouldering Lake
There are two in this area. Killing the large worm will reward you with one, and the other can be found by heading down the stairs from the Archdemon's Antechamber bonfire, making your way through the next two rooms, turning right at the junction, and heading to the far left of the area with the fire demons.

Grand Archives
As you make your way across the rooftops you'll encounter a gargoyle. Once you've taken care of him head over to the left instead of just dropping down. A second gargoyle will appear - once you've taken care of him, look around. Nearby you'll find a window you can enter to find the last Shard.
