Modder fixes Aliens: Colonial Marines

It's a kind of magic.

Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines wasn't great. Now, a modder has fixed it.

TemplarGFX's "ACM Overhaul", released on 20th March and updated since, lets those who download the mod "experience Aliens: Colonial Marines how it should have been when it came out".

"Heavily balanced and play-tested for exciting, suspenseful and most importantly, FUN gameplay," reads the official blurb over on Moddb.

So, what does the mod do? When Aliens: Colonial Marines came out it was criticised for its laughable alien AI. ACM Overhaul reprograms the Xenomorphs to make them much more aggressive and, as a result, scarier. Here's a snippet:

"AI decision timing increased 1000 per cent to greatly increase their ability to adapt to changing situations and react to new threats.

"Movement speed, acceleration, weight, jump power and flight speed rebalanced so they are extremely agile and move swiftly around the cluttered levels."

The alien health has been reduced to compensate for this increased aggression and agility, but you need to land headshots to kill them quickly.

The mod goes further, tweaking the human AI, weapon mechanics, animations, shaders, particles and even the lighting.

With the mod, for example, dead bodies, body parts, acid splashes and blood splashes remain in the game world indefinitely. Sounds lovely.

The videos, below, show off gameplay for ACM Overhaul, which remains a work in progress.
