Seasons mod makes Fallout 4 look like The Last of Us

Spring! Summer! Autumn! Winter!

Fallout 4's day / night cycle sees the Commonwealth go from night to bright and back again, but the Wasteland itself remains constant.

Now, with a new in-progress mod, the Commonwealth changes with the seasons. The results are pretty cool.

Fallout 4 Seasons brings together a raft of mods to give a "nature reclaiming the wasteland" feel to the game world. Autumn brings with it bright foliage and plants. Previously barren trees appear "fuller" and "fluffier". Winter adds snow to the landscape. Spring drenches the wasteland in green with bright blooming flowers and plants. Summer tones the green down somewhat, with crops appropriate for the new harvest. The tweaks combine to lend Bethesda's post-apocalyptic Boston a Last of Us feel, rekindling memories of Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic adventure.

Fallout 4 Seasons is the work of GameDuchess, who took inspiration from modern day photos of Hiroshima and Nagasaki - two cities that suffered from nuclear bomb attacks.

"Those places are extremely green and growing," GameDuchess explained, "with nature and animals there as much if not more than they were before the atomic bombs went off. And it's been far less than 200 years."

Right now, the mod does not cycle through the seasons depending on the in-game date, so you have to switch between them manually. But having Fallout 4 Seasons work more realistically is the next step for the mod - one GameDuchess hopes to take when the Fallout 4 Creation Kit is released. We've already seen Fallout 4 (officially) add Christmas decorations to Diamond City, so the hope is the scripting built into the game can be used by modders to trigger changes based on the in-game calendar.
