Rick and Morty mobile game Pocket Mortys parodies Pokémon

Arrives next week for free.

Adult Swim's popular sci-fi comedy Rick and Morty is getting a free mobile spin-off next week with Pocket Mortys, coming to iOS and Android platforms on 14th January.

Series creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon tweeted about its release, and included gifs of it in action, making it clear that it's following in the footsteps of Pokémon.

Based on the snippet of gameplay we've seen, Pocket Mortys is set in the Council of Ricks in an alternate dimension where Ricks and Mortys from indefinite universes come to form their own nation. And a government run by the staunchly - and squanchly - anti-government Rick is a terrifying place indeed.

Adult Swim senior producer Chris Johnston confirmed on Twitter that Pocket Morty's is a "real game" unlike Rick and Morty Presents: Jerry's Game, a balloon-popping simulator meant for Morty's sweet, but unintelligent father (and Rick's regrettable son-in-law) Jerry.

"This is all game. Real game. The real McCoy. The Real Ghostbusters," Johnston stated.

This isn't the first time Rick and Morty have invaded the video game space, as the interdimensional traveling pair have previously been available as announcers in Dota 2 DLC. Roiland has also collaborated with The Stanley Parable designer William Pugh on the short free game, Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger And The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist. The pair are also collaborating on an unannounced VR game.
