SoulCalibur Lost Swords to shut down in November

What next for the once great fighting game series?

SoulCalibur Lost Swords shuts down on 30th November 2015 - a year-and-a-half after it launched.

The free-to-play single-player PlayStation 3 weapon-based fighting game saw just over 2m downloads since its February 2014 Japan release. Eurogamer reviewer Matt Edwards called it a "failed experiment" in our SoulCalibur Lost Swords review.

On 30th September, AP Potions and Continue tickets will no longer be sold. Then, on 27th October, all in-game items will no longer be sold.

What next for the SoulCalibur series, then? Bandai Namco put out a video, below, about the Lost Swords closure, that suggests the publisher is keen to continue with the franchise. But it's yet to announce any new SoulCalibur game is in development.

The last release of a proper SoulCalibur game was in 2012 for SoulCalibur 5 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Perhaps we'll hear of a current-gen follow-up at the Tokyo Game Show later this month.
