Smite developer unveils team shooter Paladins

Capture the Flag meets Team Fortress 2 with collectible cards.

Smite developer Hi-Rez Studios has announced Paladins: Champions of the Realm, a team-based shooter due next year for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

It mixes third-person shooting and Capture the Flag-style gameplay with stat-boosting collectible cards.

Paladins is designed to move at a quick pace, with matches timed similarly to something like Team Fortress 2.

"Paladins has been a passion project of ours from the beginning," senior producer Mick Larkins explained.

"We've dedicated a separate team from Smite to work on it, and while we are still early in development, we know we're crafting something very special. Paladins is extremely quick, with a great deal of depth in how it blends action, tactics, and teamwork, and we're excited for gamers to start discovering all it has to offer."

The game will be playable for the first time at Gamescom this week - or for everyone else, you can sign up for the game's beta over at Paladins.com.
