Red Ash Kickstarter falls $280k short of its goal

But the anime spin-off was still funded.

Red Ash, Keiji Inafune's spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends, has fallen $280K shy of its $800k Kickstarter goal upon its campaign coming to a close today.

The good news is that its prologue, a roughly eight-hour affair called Red Ash: The KalKanon Incident, will still be made for PC, PS4 and Xbox One as Chinese company Fuze Entertainment funded this part of the project.

Furthermore, its anime spin-off, Red Ash: Magicicada, achieved its $150k goal with an ending tally of $162,882 across 1869 backers. Comparatively, the Red Ash game had 6550 backers.

There was a lot of skepticism over the Red Ash Kickstarter as Keiji Inafune's previous crowdfunded project, Mega Man spiritual successor Mighty No. 9, has yet to come out.

It didn't help that when Fuze took over funding developer Comcept noted that the pledges would only go towards stretch goals. "Exactly what are those stretch goals? We're sorry to say that will have to wait a little while longer!" was the official company line on what backers would be putting their money toward.
