Nintendo adding Amiibo support to Hyrule Warriors

Wallet upgrade required.

Nintendo has announced plans to patch Amiibo support into Wii U hack-and-slash Hyrule Warriors.

The Zelda-themed Dynasty Warriors mash-up was released last month in Europe and during August in Japan, although this is the first we've heard of any Amiibo functionality.

Nintendo previously announced plans to implement Amiibo in five upcoming games - Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Kart 8 and Yoshi's Woolly World.

There are also plans to patch support into Mario Kart 8, although this isn't expected to happen until next year.

Exactly when Amiibo integration - specifically for Wave 1's Link figurine - will appear is unknown. Nintendo has not mentioned exactly what the figure will do, either.

Perhaps you'll be able to level up the figure, Smash Bros.-style, to play Hyrule Warriors and start each round with some kind of bonus?

Maybe the figurine will unlock a new mode? Or maybe it'll just be some kind of costume DLC, featuring Link's outfit from Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U.

Regardless, it begs the question - which other Nintendo games will get Amiibo integration added?
