Wasteland 2 - Santa Fe Springs, secure the perimeter, Rodia, Salt Lake Park

The first part of our complete walkthrough for the Los Angeles section of Wasteland 2, including the region's sprinkling of side-quests.

When you arrive in Los Angeles, head forwards and over to the right from your camera's perspective. You'll soon come to a man surrounded by deadly dogs. Kill them all, then talk to the man called Dave. He'll direct you towards a new contact, Woodson, and also advise you to secure the area to prevent the dogs from coming back. If you've got a high enough Surgeon skill, use it on Dave to get more conversation options.

When you're ready, start the walk towards Woodson. Go along the path, beyond the clapped-out old car by Dave, then go around the first building you come to. There's a second building nearby, and Woodson will be shouting from it. Go to the east side of this building to access it, but be ready to fight a pack of dogs when you get there. Once they've been taken care of, go and chat to Woodson, then go back to Dave and let him know all's well.

Your next stop is to shore up the perimeter. First things first, kill any dogs loitering around, then grab boards from the pile of wood at the corner of Woodson's building. Next, keep going along the path and patch up the hole in the fence with one of the boards. Go west along the fence, kill the next pack of dogs, then repair the second hole.

The third hole is by the gate you use to get into Wasteland. Keep going along the path until it splits into two directions, then take the eastern path until you come to more dogs. Kill them and repair the fence, then go back the way you came. Go down the bit of path you haven't explored yet, kill the dogs by the wrecked car and patch the next hole, then patch the final one at the end of the southern path. After you've secured the perimeter, Woodson will buzz you on the radio.

Once you've listened to all of the broadcasts, and had a final natter with Dave, Woodson will give you your new instructions.

Salt Lake Park

After getting a radio request to assist a farm that's under attack, make your way towards the indicator on your map. Go inside the instance and keep heading along the path with the dead cattle. When you come to a fenced-off house, go beyond it and around the path until you reach a pack of mutated creatures. Kill them, take an animal part from the bodies, and go back down the path until you're back at the house. Show the man your proof that you've cleared the area.

Now head towards the World Map entrance, killing the robots you encounter along the way. Carry on north of Salt Lake Park until you come to a radiation wall. This will begin a radio chat with Woodson when you next enter an instance.

The stolen cows

You'll get a request over the radio to assist with a settlement near the Ranger's Base. Make your way to Cerritos, go into the instance, and then talk with the woman at the fence to hear her story. Interact with the corpse a little further along, then speak with one of the robots. Tell it you're a Ranger and you'll kick off a fight. Once the robots are dead, the cows will return to their field. Make sure you speak to the woman when you leave, and mention the rifle you picked up. She'll let you keep it, so either give it to one of your party members if it's an upgrade, or flog it next time you're at a merchant.

Rodia

At some given time, Woodson will ask you to go to Pistol Pete back in Santa Fe Springs. You'll find him standing near Woodson. Keep chatting with this new contact until he asks for assistance back home. Accept his offer of help, then make your way towards Rodia.

Once you've in the instance, go forwards to trigger a cut-scene. When everyone's run away, keep going forwards, then chat to the bandit who'll request half a dozen bullets per party member to enter. Refuse and get ready to fight.

Use your Lockpicking skill on the entrance to get to the rest of the town. There are enemies waiting for you just inside, so kill them, then kill the pair of guards standing by the gate that stands between the radio towers. Kill the enemies inside, then use the console to lower the cage.

You'll have to kill another pack of enemies when this happens, but once they're dead you'll finish up the Rodia side-quest. Assuming you have a high enough Mechanical Repair skill, you can fix up the tower, then use a Repeater Unit on it to increase the Ranger's broadcasting reach.

When you've finished here, leave via the gate and go back into town. When Pete's finished speaking, go inside the building and talk to the Mayor in the back office. He'll ask you to take a message to Angel Oracle for him.
