Jennifer Hale voices a playable character in The Long Dark

But only in the Survival Sandbox Mode.

We knew Jennifer "FemShep" Hale would be providing voice work for Hinterland Studio's wintry survival sim The Long Dark, but now the developer has revealed that she'll be voicing a playable character.

Or rather, she does in the game's Survival Sandbox Mode, which is coming to Steam Early Access in just a few days on 22nd September.

The game's Story Mode, however, will star a prescribed protagonist with bush pilot William Mackenzie. Hale will also voice a character in this campaign, but Hinterland is staying mum on who she'll play.

"When the The Long Dark was first announced, I was blown away by the concept and the potential for incredible storytelling and startling challenges in this setting," said Hale. "I'm thrilled to be able to be able to work this incredibly accomplished team that's creating such a stark, beautiful, survival simulation, and can't wait for the fans to see what we have in store for them in the game's Story Mode."

The game's voice cast also includes Mark "BroShep" Meer, former Solid Snake actor David Hayter, and Elias "I Never Asked For This" Toufexis from Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The Long Dark will cost $19.99 (about £13) on Steam Early Access and while it will initially only contain the Sandbox mode, Hinterland will release the campaign episodically along with other updates that will add new areas and Oculus Rift support.
