Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is coming to iOS

As a F2P game with micro-transactions.

Back in 2010 Bandai Namco reinvented its flagship pie chart-looking mascot with Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, a game so good that former Eurogamer editor Kristan Reed awarded it a coveted 10/10. Now, that game is coming to iOS.

The Pac is back!

Actually, it's already out on iOS in New Zealand where it showed up on 12th September. This suggests that it'll make its way west shortly, and we've reached out to Bandai Namco about a possible release date. We'll update if we hear back.

Now here's the bad news: the iOS version of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX is free-to-play, and according to PocketGamer it uses wait timers and micro-transactions to dictate a players' stock of lives and bombs. It's not clear exactly how stingy it will be with these things, however. Perhaps it will be as it was on XBLA and PSN, and you'll only have to pay if you're impatient and want extra goodies. Or maybe it will start you off in a poorer place and you'll have to pay just to match your status in the console version.

Let's hope it's not another Dungeon Keeper situation as Pac-Man Championship Edition DX on the go sounds like a lovely way to commute.
