Nintendo shows off NES Edition 3DS XL

UPDATE: Nintendo has no plans to launch these in Europe.

UPDATE 11/09/2014 6.24pm: Nintendo has confirmed to Eurogamer that it has "no plans to launch these Persona Q or NES controller inspired Nintendo 3DS XL hardware in Europe."

ORIGINAL STORY 11/09/2014 10.51am: Nintendo of America has shown off two new 3DS XL designs, including a smart-looking NES special edition.

Exclusively available at GameStop, the device will be available to buy from 10th October priced $199.99 (about £120).

We've asked Nintendo UK for details of a launch here in Europe.

A blue-coloured Persona Q 3DS XL will be available from 25th November, to tie into the North American launch of Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.

Again, it will be a GameStop exclusive and cost $199.

North America will also get the snazzy red Super Smash Bros. 3DS, which was already confirmed for a European release on 3rd October.

Of course, hold out a little longer and you'll be able to get the New 3DS and New 3DS XL designs, due in Europe and North America in early 2015. These have the added shoulder and second directional buttons found on the Circle Pad Pro, as well as in-built NFC compatibility.
